And so it was, when King Hezekiah heard it, that he tore his clothes, covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the Lord. (2 Kings 19:1)
The tearing of clothing and the wearing of sackcloth were signs of extreme grief and mourning at the time.
Secondly, Hezekiah did not allow his grieving and grief to escalate into a rejection of the strength and power the Lord alone could provide. He was aware that seeking the Lord now was more important than ever, and so he went into the house of the Lord.
Then he sent Eliakim, who was over the household, Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, to Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz. (2 Kings 19:2)
The third thing Hezekiah did was to seek the prophetic word (the now word of the Lord) through Prophet Isaiah.
And they said to him, “Thus says Hezekiah: ‘This day is a day of trouble, and rebuke, and blasphemy; for the children have come to birth, but there is no strength to bring them forth. (2 Kings 19:3)
These are the words that Hezekiah instructed his messengers to deliver to Isaiah the Prophet to convey the complete devastation that had befallen the nation of Israel. This was an idiomatic expression for a catastrophic event, which was a lady who was so worn out by labour that she was unable to give birth to her child, making it highly likely that both the mother and the child would perish.
Then Isaiah, the son of Amoz, sent to Hezekiah, saying, “Thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘Because you have prayed to Me against Sennacherib king of Assyria, I have heard. (2 Kings 19:20)
Prophet Isaiah spoke the word of the Lord, saying, "Because you have prayed.." What if Hezekiah had not prayed? I believe that no answer would have come, and Jerusalem would have been conquered. Hezekiah’s prayer really mattered. Just think for a moment how many victories could have been achieved if someone only prayed.
“And it came to pass on a certain night that the angel of the LORD went out, and killed in the camp of the Assyrians one hundred and eighty-five thousand; and when people arose early in the morning, there were the corpses—all dead.” (2 Kings 19:35)
My study of the scriptures has led me to the conclusion that spirit beings operate at a much higher vibrational or movement rate than can be seen with the human eye. I believe that such information can be deduced from reading the Scriptures. Permit me to explain by providing an illustration.
One angel killed 185,000 soldiers in one night. This is extraordinary. We can learn several things from this. First, the angel did not become tired as a human being would have. Second, we can conclude that the angel was moving much faster than a human being is capable of moving in this world.
If we assume the sharpest sword and the fact that it would take a minimum of three seconds to kill each soldier, then it would still take a human six and half days of twenty-four hours each to kill this many Syrian troops. And yet this angel did it in just one night. If we assume that this was an eight-hour night, then he was killing soldiers at the rate of six and one-half soldiers per second! From this data, we can calculate that the angel was moving about twenty times faster than a human being in top physical condition. So we can easily see that spirit beings possess bodies that operate at much higher speeds or frequencies than do human beings in the physical world.
