For wisdom is better than rubies,
And all the things one may desire cannot be compared with her. (Proverbs 8:11)
Wisdom is more valuable than silver, gold, and rubies together. One can have all of the wealth in the world and yet live a sad existence if one does not have wisdom. Early in his reign, King Solomon valued wisdom above all other treasures, and he was immensely blessed as a result of his desire for wisdom (1 Kings 3:10-13).
That I may cause those who love me to inherit wealth,
That I may fill their treasuries. (Proverbs 8:21)
Ironically, when wealth is sought, it corrupts people. However, when wisdom is sought, its fruit is often riches that fill up treasuries.
What is the Fear of the Lord?
The fear of the Lord is to hate evil;
Pride and arrogance and the evil way (Proverbs 8:13)
Reverence for God (and the wisdom that comes from it) is not neutral towards evil. On one hand, it reverences God, and on the other hand, it hates evil.
Blessed is the man who listens to me,
Watching daily at my gates,
Waiting (daily) at the posts of my doors. (Proverbs 8:34)
Notice the word ‘daily’. Their pursuit of wisdom is intentional, not accidental.
