By night on my bed I sought the one I love;
I sought him, but I did not find him. (Song of Solomon 3:1)
The beloved has a dream about her lover. After all, she refused an invitation to spend time with him, and perhaps her conscience was bothering her.
Scarcely had I passed by them,
When I found the one I love.
I held him and would not let him go,
Until I had brought him to the house of my mother,
And into the chamber of her who conceived me. (Song of Solomon 3:4)
Notice, she brought her beloved in the very room she was conceived. Isaac had brought his wife, Rebekah, into his mother’s tent and there consummated their marriage (Genesis 24:67).
Who is this coming out of the wilderness
Like pillars of smoke,
Perfumed with myrrh and frankincense,
With all the merchant’s fragrant powders? (Song of Solomon 3:6)
This was Solomon’s procession coming to claim his bride. Today’s Christians would see this as a prophetic picture of the King of Kings coming to claim His bride, the church.
