Can a virgin forget her ornaments,
Or a bride her attire?
Yet My people have forgotten Me, days without number. (Jeremiah 2:32)
For a bride, her ornaments and her attire is what gives her an identity of a bride. She treasures them the most. For her to forget them was unnatural. Israel’s rejection of the Lord was unnatural.
But My people have changed their Glory for what does not profit: (Jeremiah 2:11)
The Gentile nations were faithful to their gods even though their gods did nothing for them. Yet Israel had the God of all Glory who had blessed them in innumerable ways, and they turned from Him.
