Then He caused me to pass by them all around, and behold, there were very many in the open valley; and indeed they were very dry. (Ezekiel 37:2)
Two facts about the bones:
1. There were many of them
2. They were very dry
They were not just dry, they were very dry
In Bible times, to touch a dead body would render a priest unclean. I wonder how Ezekiel must have felt to be placed, even in vision, in this gruesome field of death!
Say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will take the stick of Joseph—which is in the hand of Ephraim—and the tribes of Israel his associates, and will join with it the stick of Judah and make them one stick, and they shall be one in My hand. (Ezekiel 37:19)
The tribe of Ephraim was the largest and most influential tribe of the northern kingdom. Several times in the Old Testament the northern kingdom was called Ephraim.
and I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king over them all; they shall no longer be two nations, nor shall they ever be divided into two kingdoms again. (Ezekiel 37:22)
Whether it’s the Children of Israel or the saints in the church today, the Lord wants His people to be united.
‘Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity’ (Psalm 133:1).
Apostle Paul appealed to the believers in Corinth to cultivate unity in the church (1 Corinthians 1:10), and he exhorted the Ephesian believers to ‘make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace’ (Ephesians 4:3).
