They must not leave any of the lamb until the next morning, and they must not break any of its bones. (Numbers 9:12)
- The body of our Lord Jesus was not left on the cross overnight.
- None of His bones were also broken.
The Passover sacrifice was a powerful and accurate picture of the sacrificial death of our Lord Jesus Christ in the Old Testament.
On the day the Tabernacle was set up, the cloud covered it. But from evening until morning the cloud over the Tabernacle looked like a pillar of fire. (Numbers 9:15)
During the day time, the glory of God covered the tabernacle as a pillar of cloud. Everyone could visibly see it.
However, from evening until morning, there is darkness all around. The glory of God that covered the tabernacle looked like a pillar of fire.
Why the change?
Could not the glory of God still continue to appear as a pillar of cloud?
1 John 1:5 Amplified says:
God is Light, and there is no darkness in Him at all [no, not in any way].
The darkness around cannot overcome the light. This is why I believe the Lord showed Himself as a pillar of fire in the night that was visible to everyone.
Also, in the New Testament, we are the tabernacle of God. In these dark times, many will see the glory of God resting on Christians like a pillar of fire. It happened on Pentecost, it will happen again.
BEING LED BY THE SPIRIT
Whenever the cloud lifted from over the sacred tent, the people of Israel would break camp and follow it. And wherever the cloud settled, the people of Israel would set up camp. (Numbers 9:17)
They breaking of camp and setting of camp depended on the resting and lifting up of the cloud of glory. It was not according to their whims and fancies. It was not when felt like. They could set up where they felt like to set up camp. It was all directed by the Lord. They had no say.
In this way, they traveled and camped at the Lord’s command wherever he told them to go. Then they remained in their camp as long as the cloud stayed over the Tabernacle. (Numbers 9:18)
The Old Testament Church was totally led by the Spirit - How much more than we the New Testament Church.
Sometimes the cloud would stay over the Tabernacle for only a few days, so the people would stay for only a few days, as the Lord commanded. Then at the Lord’s command they would break camp and move on. (Numbers 9:20)
Being led by the Spirit is not comfortable. It will make you uncomfortable many times. It will bring you out of your comfort zone. When you think you are just getting comfortable He will move you or ask you do something that is not comfortable with the flesh.
Sometimes the cloud stayed only overnight and lifted the next morning. But day or night, when the cloud lifted, the people broke camp and moved on. (Numbers 9:21)
Imagine the camp moving in the night
Children and women sleeping and suddenly there is a command to move
As many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God (Romans 8:14)
The Holy Spirit in a person’s life is to guide him into the plans and purposes of God. Notice, they that are led by the Spirit of God are called the sons of God. Even today the Cloud of fire and the Pillar of Cloud wants to guide you
1. Meditate on the Word of God
“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” –Joshua 1:8 (NKJV)
When you meditate on the Word of God, you are training your human spirit to recognize God’s voice and be more in tune with what He has to say to you, specifically—about every detail of every situation. That’s why God told Joshua that meditating on His Word was the key to prosperity and success (Joshua 1:8). He gave him the secret to achieving everything he had ever wanted. That secret is meditating on His Word.
2. Be a Doer of the Word of God
“Be doers of the word and not hearers only.” –James 1:22 (NKJV)
One of the surest ways to be led by the Spirit of God is to be a doer of the Word of God. Nowadays we don’t see too many Christians who are doers of the Word anymore. They certainly talk the talk, but the walk looks like everyone else in the world.
To become a doer of the Word of God, determine in your heart to do everything you see written in it. That means you alter your lifestyle to fit the Word instead of trying to alter the Word to fit your lifestyle. You don’t make excuses; you don’t try to change what the Bible actually says to suit your own fleshly desires. You just obey the Word by faith.
