Very early in the morning, on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen. (Mark 16:2)
Why Do Christians Worship on the First Day of the Week?
The new law, the Law of Christ, came into effect on Pentecost Day (Acts 2). On that day, the church of Christ was established (Acts 2:36-47). From that time, we find Christians meeting to worship upon the first day of the week which is Sunday.
And upon the first day of the week, when we were gathered together to break bread, Paul discoursed with them, intending to depart on the morrow; and prolonged his speech until midnight (Acts 20:7).
Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I gave order to the churches of Galatia, so also do ye. Upon the first day of the week let each one of you lay by him in store, as he may prosper, that no collections be made when I come. (1 Corinthians 16:1-3)
The Seventh-day Adventists do not believe that there is any scriptural support for worship on Sunday. From the above verses and many such verses that affirm that Sunday, the first day of the week, as being special, a day of breaking bread, and of gathering collections.
But be going; tell the disciples and Peter, He goes before you into Galilee; you will see Him there, [just] as He told you. (Mark 16:7)
Notice the phrase, ‘the disciples and Peter’. Peter had denied the Lord and by virtue of his confession Peter has ceased being a disciple of Jesus. Hence, the phrase, ‘the disciples and Peter’. However, the good news was that Peter was not left out. No wonder the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ is also called the gospel of the second chance.
And they (the women who saw the angel at the tomb) said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid. (Mark 16:8)
Each of us who have trusted Jesus Christ as our personal Saviour have been appointed as His ambassador. God has given every believer this wonderful privilege and opportunity to proclaim the gospel of the grace of God. We are told in 2 Corinthians 5:20
Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.
However, fear is one obstacle that hinders many from proclaiming the risen Lord. In this case, though the women had a supernatural encounter, they were afraid to speak about the risen Lord.
