Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ. (1 Corinthians 11:1)
Today, few can say what Paul said. Compromise has dented the sharpness of many.
23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; 24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” 25 In the same manner, He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes. (1 Corinthians 11:23-26)
For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you
Apostle Paul didn't just make this up, he received it from the Lord through revelation. It came to him from the Lord either personally or through the other apostles.
And when He had given thanks:
In theology, and in church custom, the Lord's Supper is often called the eucharist. This word comes from the ancient Greek phrase used here for given thanks
You proclaim the Lord's death until He comes:
Proclaim is the same word translated "preach" in other places.
When we take communion, we send out a message to the Lord Himself, to the Devil and all his allies, and to the world who watches. It is said, actions speak louder than words.” In this case also it is very true.
There are many ways to preach. One of the surest ways to preach is not by words alone but by actions
A great man of God once said, “Preach the Gospel at all times and when necessary use words."
27 Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.30 For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep. (1 Corinthians 11:27-30)
Scripture clearly tells us the reason why many are weak, sick and some have even died. It is because they have not properly discerned the Lord’s body. That's the sad part but the good news is that if we partake communion in a proper manner then it could become a golden key that unlocks God’s healing power in every area of your life.
Now many have taught that if you have sin in your life, you are unworthy and cannot partake of the Holy Communion, lest you become weak and sick, and even die! Because of this, many Christians are afraid to come to the Lord’s table and are therefore robbed of the health-giving power of the Holy Communion.
My friend, there is no such thing as a worthy person! The best of us still miss it and fail. The Truth is Lord Jesus died for unworthy people, He has qualified us who take Him as our righteousness to partake of every benefit that He died to give us. All you need to do is examine yourself, repent and ask the LORD to cleanse you with His precious blood.
Don’t treat communion as another ritual, but release your faith for health and healing as you discern that Jesus’ body was broken so that our bodies can be healthy and whole today.
