When leaders lead in Israel,
When the people willingly offer themselves,
Bless the Lord! (Judges 5:2)
Two conditions for the Lord to be glorified
1.The leaders are doing what they are supposed to do - lead
2.When the people willingly offer themselves
Keywords: Angels, Spiritual Warfare
They fought from the heavens;
The stars from their courses fought against Sisera. (Judges 5:20)
Barak and Deborah had angelic help
This signifies that the battle was not only physical but there was a spiritual battle in the heavenlies as well. Behind every physical battle there is a spiritual battle being fought.
‘Curse Meroz,’ said the angel of the Lord,
‘Curse its inhabitants bitterly,
Because they did not come to the help of the Lord,
To the help of the Lord against the mighty.’ (Judges 5:23)
One very interesting fact is how closely the LORD identifies with the problems of His people. He rebukes Meroz not for failing to come to the help of Israel, Barak, or Deborah, but for failing to “come to the help of the LORD.” These people failed to join together with God in doing His work.
Even today many of us fail to stand together with other Christians because they don’t belong to our denomination.
“Who am I that I can help God?” God could certainly do His work totally apart from us. He doesn’t need us, yet strangely enough, He has chosen to use you and me as human instruments.
Why did this city fail to come? We are not told but it isn’t hard to imagine the various reasons because we still hear them today: “Too busy, too scary, too expensive, it’s not our battle.”
Powerful Warfare Prayers
let all Your enemies perish, O Lord! But let those who love Him be like the sun when it rises in its might. And the land had peace and rest for forty years. (Judges 5:31)
