Restoration of Good Things
“And the LORD restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends. Indeed, the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.”
(Job 42:10)
In common usage, restoration means returning something old, worn out, damaged, or broken back to its former condition. But biblical restoration goes far beyond ordinary repair. According to Scripture, restoration means God not only returns what was lost, but multiplies it and makes it better than before.
This divine pattern shines most clearly in the life of Job.
Job 42:12 declares:
“So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning.”
Whatever the enemy stole—your health, finances, opportunities, peace, relationships, or joy—God’s desire is not merely to replace it. He intends to increase it, improve it, and transform it. satan never has the last word. Jesus does.
God’s Principle of Restoration
Scripture sets a divine law concerning theft:
“Yet if he is caught, he must pay sevenfold.”
(Proverbs 6:31)
The thief (satan) comes only to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), but God brings restoration—full, overflowing, and beyond expectation.
He doesn’t return things to the old normal; He restores them to a new glory.
Can the Devil Steal From a Believer?
Yes. The enemy works with permission. Without access, he cannot touch a believer’s life (Ephesians 4:27). Below are four ways the devil gains that access.
1. Disobedience to Divine Instruction
Adam lost the dominion God gave him through disobedience.
Whenever you disobey God, you create an open door for the enemy.
Disobedience breaks divine protection.
Obedience strengthens divine covering.
2. Wrong Thinking
If your thoughts do not align with God’s Word, the enemy will exploit that weakness.
“Casting down imaginations… and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.”
(2 Corinthians 10:5)
Wrong thinking leads to wrong believing, which leads to wrong speaking and wrong living.
3. Wrong Confession
Job’s wife tried to push him into cursing God during his pain, but Job refused.
Negative words give satan permission to operate.
“You are snared with the words of your lips;
you are caught by the speech of your mouth.”
(Proverbs 6:2)
Your mouth can either open the door to blessing or open the door to loss.
4. Wrong Associations
When God wants to bless you, He sends a person.
When satan wants to destroy you, he also sends a person.
Be careful whom you allow into your inner circle.
“Do not be deceived: Evil company corrupts good character.”
(1 Corinthians 15:33)
Many destinies have been delayed or damaged because of wrong friendships.
Major Areas Where God Brings Restoration
Even if you have experienced loss, setback, betrayal, suffering, or self-inflicted mistakes, remember:
God is able to restore everything. Nothing is beyond His reach.
Here are the major areas where the Bible promises restoration.
1. Restoration of Our Union With God
Loss begins when intimacy with God is compromised.
“You are neither cold nor hot… because you are lukewarm, I will spit you out of My mouth.”
(Revelation 3:15–16)
When worldly cares and the deceitfulness of riches take over the heart, spiritual passion is lost. But God calls us back to Himself, for:
“Without Me you can do nothing.”
(John 15:5)
Restoration begins with returning to the presence of God.
2. Restoration of Our Glory and Good Things
Esau lost his birthright—his spiritual inheritance—because of momentary cravings.
“Thus Esau despised his birthright.”
(Genesis 25:34)
Hebrews 12:17 confirms that although he begged with tears, he could not recover what he gave away.
Many still lose their God-given glory through impulsive choices—lust, greed, compromise, and temporary pleasures.
But God is able to restore the glory that was lost, the honor that was stolen, and the destiny that was derailed.
3. Restoration of Wasted Years and Opportunities
“So I will restore to you the years the swarming locust has eaten…”
(Joel 2:25)
God does not only restore things—He restores years.
He gives back:
- Opportunities lost through fear
- Time lost through rebellion
- Resources lost through ignorance
- Seasons wasted through wrong decisions
When God restores years, He compresses blessings, multiplies harvests, and accelerates breakthroughs.
Moses at 120 years still had sharp eyesight and undiminished strength (Deuteronomy 34:7).
God renewed him beyond human limitation.
That will be your testimony as well.
4. Restoration of Joy
Job lost his family, wealth, health, and joy—but God restored everything, double.
David prayed:
“Restore to me the joy of Your salvation.”
(Psalm 51:12)
Joy is a spiritual force.
It is strength (Nehemiah 8:10).
It is protection.
It is evidence of a restored heart.
God wants to restore your joy—joy in prayer, joy in worship, joy in service, joy in Christ.
satan may take things away, but God returns them with increase. The losses of yesterday cannot prevent the restoration of tomorrow.
God restores:
- Better than before
- Greater than before
- Stronger than before
- Higher than before
- Deeper than before
He restored Job.
He restored David.
He restored Israel.
And He will restore you.
Your latter days will be greater than your former days.
(Job 8:7; Job 42:12)
