Oh Lord, Let Your Will Be Done

“May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.”
 (Matthew 6:10, NLT)

When we pray, “Lord, let Your will be done,” we are not reciting a religious phrase—we are inviting God to establish His Kingdom, rule, and perfect plans in our lives.

Praying for the will of God shifts our perspective. It crucifies our self-will, ego, pride, and desire for control. When we submit to His will, we stop striving to make our plans work and instead begin to walk in His divine agenda. God’s will always meets our needs, protects our destiny, and aligns our lives with heaven’s blueprint.

The truth is simple:
If our prayer does not invite God, He will not step in.
God never forces His will—He responds to surrendered hearts.

Why Do We Need to Know the Will of God?

Understanding God’s will is essential for victorious Christian living. Ignorance of His will opens the door to confusion, deception, and defeat.

Below are eight crucial reasons why every believer must seek and know God’s will.

1. Without Knowing God’s Will, You Cannot Pray According to It

In 2 Kings 4:33–35, the Shunammite woman and Elisha knew it was not God’s will for her son to die prematurely. That revelation produced persistent, faith-filled prayer—and the boy was restored to life.

When you don’t know God’s will, you will accept whatever life throws at you.
Revelation strengthens prayer.

2. Knowing God’s Will Helps You Overcome Temptation

In Matthew 4:1–11, Jesus defeated every temptation because He perfectly understood the will of God. Even when satan misquoted scripture, Jesus corrected him instantly.

If you do not know God’s will, the enemy will confuse you, deceive you, and trap you.

3. Your Safety, Blessing, and Prosperity Are Found in the Will of God

Ignorance allows satan to take advantage of believers.

“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.”
 (3 John 2)

Some people mistakenly believe sickness or poverty is God’s will for them. That is a lie. You must resist anything that falls below God’s revealed will for your life.

God’s will brings:
  • Health
  • Protection
  • Prosperity
  • Peace
  • Wholeness
4. You Can Only Obey the Will You Know

If you do not know God’s will, you will unknowingly walk against it.

“Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come… to do Your will, O God.’”
 (Hebrews 10:7)

Obedience is impossible without revelation.

5. When We Step Outside God’s Will, We Give satan an Open Door

“Nor give place to the devil.”
 (Ephesians 4:27)

Disobedience and ignorance create legal access for satan to attack, afflict, and steal. Staying aligned to God’s will shuts every door to the enemy.

6. satan Accuses Us When We Live Outside God’s Will

“Then he showed me Joshua the high priest… and satan standing at his right hand to accuse him.”
 (Zechariah 3:1)

Living outside God’s will empowers satan’s accusations. Living inside God’s will silences the accuser.

7. God Does Not Act Outside His Will

“You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss…”
 (James 4:3)

Prayers outside God’s will cannot be answered.
Prayers aligned with His will carry heaven’s authority.

8. You Cannot Fulfill Destiny Outside the Will of God

Jesus taught:

“Abide in Me… for without Me you can do nothing.”
 (John 15:4–7)

Fruitfulness, purpose, and destiny are found only in abiding within God’s will. Outside of Him, destiny dries up.

Two Vital Keys to Knowing God’s Will for Your Life

God does not hide His plan from His children. But He reveals it through relationship and obedience. These two principles are essential.

1. Walk With God

Cultivate your relationship with Him.
Do not merely seek to know about God—seek to know Him.

You build this relationship by:
  • Spending time in the Word
  • Communing with God in prayer
  • Staying planted in church
  • Serving under godly leadership (your J-12 leader, pastors, mentors)
  • Practicing spiritual disciplines consistently
As you walk with God, He begins to illuminate your path.

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart… acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
 (Proverbs 3:5–6)

2. Obey What God Has Already Revealed

Many believers seek new revelations while ignoring the clear instructions already written in Scripture.

But 98 percent of God’s will is already revealed in the Word of God.

For example:

“For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality.”
 (1 Thessalonians 4:3)

If we refuse to obey what God has clearly stated, He will not reveal deeper or more specific directions.

  • Obedience unlocks revelation.
  •  Revelation unlocks guidance.
  •  Guidance unlocks destiny.

Praying for God’s will to be done is not a formality—it is a declaration of surrender.

It invites God’s kingdom, power, and purpose into your life.
When you know His will, you can pray His will, walk in His will, resist satan effectively, and fulfill your destiny.

May your prayer every day be: “Oh Lord, let Your will be done in my life.”
