Taking New Territories
“Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses.” (Joshua 1:3)
Believers can rise into positions of leadership across every sphere of influence sports, politics, technology, agriculture, education, the military, healthcare, and the media. Through these roles, the kingdom of God expands, and godly values permeate the systems and institutions of society.
From the beginning, God commanded humanity to be fruitful, multiply, and have dominion (Genesis 1:28). Dominion is not optional it is part of our spiritual DNA. As God’s people, we are designed to take territories. This does not involve physical violence, weapons, or fighting human beings. Taking territory is fundamentally about influence.
Success in any field creates influence. That influence must be used to establish righteous principles and kingdom values in society.
Jesus calls us the light of the world and the salt of the earth (Matthew 5:16). By redemption, we are empowered to take over the earth for God. We are called and saved to influence every sector, preserve it from corruption, and guide society toward righteousness (1 Peter 2:9). Christians should be examples blueprints for leadership, morality, and godliness. We are the change-agents that the world should look to for direction.
What Does It Mean to Take Territories?
- Becoming a change agent.
- Breaking new frontiers.
- Advancing the kingdom of God in the hearts of people.
- Influencing your environment with kingdom values.
- Becoming a positive reference point.
Why Must We Take Over Territories?
1. To Displace Rulers of Darkness
Every territory has spiritual rulers responsible for sickness, disease, poverty, violence, corruption, addiction, and all forms of social decay. If we do not displace them, they will remain indefinitely.
Ephesians 6:12 reveals that our battle is not against people, but against principalities, powers, rulers of darkness, and spiritual hosts of wickedness.
Removing these rulers is essential for true transformation.
2. To Succeed in All Our Labour
Many Christians work diligently, yet their efforts produce limited results because territorial spirits resist them. Until these powers are broken, succeeding in certain regions or sectors becomes difficult.
God told Joshua:
“Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you.”
— Joshua 1:3
Many ministries, businesses, and careers stagnate because territorial spirits hold people in mental and spiritual bondage. When these powers are displaced, growth becomes inevitable.
The 5 P’s for Taking Territories
These five requirements must be in place before you can effectively claim territories for God.
1. Purpose
Why do you want to take over territories for self or for God?
If your purpose is aligned with God’s kingdom, Heaven will back you.
But selfish ambition exposes a person to satanic attacks. Purpose determines protection.
2. Prayer
Jabez prayed for God to enlarge his territory—and God granted his request.
“Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory…!”
— 1 Chronicles 4:9–10
Taking territory requires spiritual warfare. You cannot take territory without confronting and dislodging resistance. Prayer clears the atmosphere, breaks satanic strongholds, and opens doors that no man can shut.
3. Passion (Determination)
Daniel was determined not to defile himself with the king’s food (Daniel 1:8). Determination flows from purpose. If Daniel did not understand God’s purpose for his life, he would have bowed to Babylon’s system.
As Dr. Myles Munroe famously said,
“When purpose is not known, abuse is inevitable.”
Passion drives consistency, courage, and resilience in hostile environments.
4. Purity
Jesus said:
“The ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me.”
— John 14:30
The enemy examined Jesus and found no sin, no open door, and no legal ground.
Purity is your spiritual shield.
You may appear clean before people, but God sees the heart and so does the enemy.
Are you the same person inside the workplace, at home, and in church?
Purity always precedes power.
Without holiness, you cannot take territories.
5. Power
Jesus taught:
“How can one enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods unless he first binds the strong man?”
— Matthew 12:29
Before you conquer a territory, you must bind the strongman over that territory. God has given us authority to bind and loose, but if we fail to use that authority, nothing will change.
Every sector business, technology, entertainment, government, healthcare has specific principalities operating behind the scenes. These must be overthrown through prayer, purity, and spiritual authority before kingdom influence can truly take root.
Remember
Taking territories is not a suggestion it is a divine mandate.
It is about influence, transformation, and establishing God’s will on earth.
When you walk with purpose, pray with intensity, maintain purity, operate in power, and guard your motives, you will rise as a kingdom ambassador capable of possessing new territories for the glory of God.
