Walking in Freedom and Maturity

Offence always leaves an impact on a believer’s life but so does overcoming offence. When offence is allowed to remain, it hardens the heart and slows spiritual growth. But when offence is confronted and released, it produces maturity, peace, and freedom. In other words, we are shaped either by the hurt we hold onto or by the healing we choose.

While offence limits growth, freedom from offence matures the soul. The final goal of this journey is not merely to avoid being offended, but to develop a heart strong enough to remain loving, teachable, and peaceful even when wronged.

Scripture presents maturity not as perfection, but as stability.

“But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil” (Hebrews 5:14).

Spiritual maturity is revealed by how we respond when hurt not when everything goes well.

The Choice That Breaks the Cycle

Freedom from offence begins with a decision, not a feeling. Forgiveness is an act of obedience before it is an emotion. Jesus taught plainly:

“Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you” (Matthew 5:44).

This command is not rooted in weakness, but in authority. When believers refuse to retaliate or withdraw, they break the cycle that offence feeds on. What offence seeks to multiply, love dismantles.

Healing the Heart, Not Just the Memory

Many people remember pain long after forgiving, and this can cause confusion. Healing does not always erase memory it removes control. The wound no longer dictates reactions, decisions, or tone.

David prayed with wisdom:

“Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved” (Jeremiah 17:14).

Healing is God’s work, but surrender is ours. A healed heart remains soft without becoming vulnerable to repeated harm.

Lord Jesus did not just forgive He entrusted Himself to the Father (John 2:24). This is the posture of maturity: releasing the need to defend oneself and trusting God as the ultimate judge.

Apostle Paul urges believers:

“Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamour, and evil speaking be put away from you… and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another” (Ephesians 4:31–32).

Tenderness is not immaturity; it is strength under control.

A Life That Reflects the Kingdom

When offence is conquered, peace becomes consistent, relationships become healthier, and growth accelerates. The believer is no longer easily shaken, easily angered, or easily withdrawn.

Lord Jesus said,

“By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:35).

Freedom from offence is not merely personal it is a testimony.
