Tongues the Language of God

Lord Jesus made a powerful statement before He ascended to heaven:
“These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new tongues. They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won’t hurt them. They will lay their hands on the sick, and they will be healed.”(Mark 16:17–18, NLT)
Notice something very important. Lord Jesus did not say these signs would follow only apostles, prophets, pastors, or evangelists. He clearly said “those who believe.” The only qualification mentioned is belief. This means that every genuine believer in Lord Jesus Christ is included in this promise.
The Power Is in Believing, Not in a Title
Many Christians think miracles and spiritual gifts are only for a special group of people. Scripture does not support this idea.
The Bible does not say, “These signs will follow church leaders.”
It says, “These signs will follow those who believe.”
Faith—not position, age, education, or background—is the key.
A Jewish Insight: The “Language of God”
A respected man of God once shared a fascinating Jewish tradition.
According to ancient Jewish belief, when the high priest entered the Holy of Holies on the Day of Atonement, he could communicate with God in a language that only God and the priest understood.
This ability existed only inside the Holy of Holies. Once the priest came out, he could no longer speak that heavenly language.
Later, Jewish rabbis referred to this experience as the “Language of God.” Isn’t this remarkable?
In the Old Testament, only one man, once a year, could experience this.
In the New Testament, every believer has access to God’s presence through the Holy Spirit.
Who Can Speak in Tongues?
This question is asked often, and the answer is very simple.
Anyone who:
- Has believed in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour
- Has received the baptism of the Holy Spirit —can speak in tongues.
There is no other biblical method and no special class of Christians for this gift.
“For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.”(Romans 8:14, NIV)
Tongues are not a reward for maturity; they are a gift for believers.
Lord Jesus explained it clearly. He said:
“Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”(John 7:38, NIV)
The Bible then explains:
“By this He meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were later to receive.”(John 7:39, NIV)
Tongues flow from within—not from the mind, not from emotions, but from the Spirit of God inside the believer.
Why Speaking in Tongues Matters
Speaking in tongues:
- Strengthens your spirit
- Helps you pray beyond human limitations
- Deepens your fellowship with God
“The one who speaks in a tongue builds up himself.”(1 Corinthians 14:4, ESV)
What was once limited to the Holy of Holies is now available to every believer—because Jesus made the way.
You Must Know this
Tongues are not strange, emotional, or outdated.
They are a sign that follows those who believe.
The real question is not “Is this for today?”
The real question is: Do I believe what Jesus said?

Prayer
Father, in the name of Jesus, I receive help to pray the heart of God as I pray in tongue.
