“And without faith living within us, it would be impossible to please God. For we come to God in faith, knowing that He is real and that He rewards the faith of those who give all their passion and strength into seeking Him.” (Hebrews 11:6 TPT)
Yesterday, we explored what faith is. Today, we want to examine faith as the first school into which every believer must be admitted if anything they do is to please God.
What Does It Mean to Please God?
To begin, let us untangle what it means to please someone.
According to the Cambridge English Dictionary, the phrase “to please” means “to make someone feel happy or satisfied, or to give someone pleasure.”
Wow! What a great and important subject faith is.
Faith is so important that God cannot be satisfied with you or take pleasure in you if you do not believe Him.
Why Faith Matters So Much
The truth is, without confidence an unmovable trust in God's dependability, His Word, His counsel, and His promises how do you expect Him to be happy and satisfied with you?
Think about how effective your relationships are when you are surrounded by people who trust you and take your words seriously.
- Trust creates connection.
- Trust creates confidence.
- Trust creates intimacy.
- The same principle applies to our relationship with God.
Faith in Everyday Relationships
Is it possible for a child to please his father if he has lost faith in him?
What about a husband and wife? Can they truly find joy and satisfaction in their home and relationship without a level of confidence and trust in each other?
The obvious answer is no.
Every healthy relationship is built upon trust.
Without trust, relationships become strained, distant, and ineffective.
Likewise, our relationship with God flourishes through faith.
Faith is the glue that brings together the broken pieces of man's life after the Fall. It is a pathway into all of God.
No Christian life is possible without the foundation of faith being carefully laid (Ephesians 2:8).
Faith must be operational for a relationship with a God who is Spirit to be viable.
Just as people naturally travel passionately with those who cherish and believe in them, all of God is only available and accessible to those who trust Him.
Without Faith, Everything Becomes Mere Religion
Without faith, everything we do will never proceed from the heart. It will merely become make-believe or eye service. And trust me, we have a lot of that among folks in the church today.
People may sing, pray, serve, and attend church activities, but if faith is absent, the heart is absent.
God is not looking merely for outward actions; He is looking for genuine trust.
The One Door Into the Heart of God
There is only one door that brings you into the heart of God and secures a place for you in His Kingdom—faith.
Why is that?
The writer of Hebrews explains:
“For he who comes to God must believe that He is.”
Your first approach in pursuing God and following Him must begin with agreement concerning one foundational truth:
- God is alive.
- God is real.
- God exists.
The fact that God exists is a significant issue in our generation.
We are increasingly stepping into an ocean of unbelief as many people become hostile toward God and reject His existence.
Yet the journey of faith always begins with acknowledging that God is.
Before you can trust Him, obey Him, or walk with Him, you must first believe that He exists.
The First Requirement of Worship
A great man of God expressed it this way:
"This (faith in the existence of God) is the first thing required in worship. Evidently, we cannot come to Him in an acceptable manner if we doubt His existence. We do not see Him, but we must believe that He is (this is true faith); we cannot form in our mind a correct image of God, but this should not prevent a conviction that there is such a Being."
What a powerful truth.
We do not see God with our natural eyes, yet faith enables us to know with certainty that He is real.
Faith reaches beyond the limitations of the senses and embraces the reality of God's existence. And when we come to Him with that kind of faith, we bring pleasure to His heart.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, strengthen my faith that I may truly please You. Help me deepen my trust in Your promises and Your love so that I may walk by faith, not by sight. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
