Don't Sabotage Your Destiny!

Do you find yourself repeatedly doing things that could have a negative impact on your present and future? The saddest part is that, even when you recognise these behaviours, you often cannot seem to stop them. You are not alone in this struggle. As the Apostle Paul writes:

"I don't really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don't do it. Instead, I do what I hate." (Romans 7:15 NLT)

Habits are simply actions repeated over time, often carried out without much conscious thought. These actions create patterns in our lives both good and bad and the negative ones can be highly destructive in the long run. Because our daily habits heavily influence our long-term outcomes, the fight of faith requires us to actively align our actions with the will of God.

As Scripture encourages:

"Fight the good fight for the true faith." (1 Timothy 6:12)

Aligning With Your God-Given Destiny

God created each of us in His image and likeness, instilling a unique purpose and calling in our lives. However, for that calling to manifest on earth, our actions must align with His Word. Often, the desires of the flesh draw us toward behaviours that pull us far away from our original destiny in Christ. If left unchecked, this can delay or even prevent the fulfilment of the purpose for which we were created.

Two Simple Steps to Break Destructive Patterns

1. Acknowledge the Problem

Acknowledging that you have a self-sabotaging habit is the vital first step toward deliverance. True humility is not just about bowing low; it is about honestly recognising what needs to change in your life. This is the essence of true repentance.

David experienced this powerful shift when he prayed:

"I acknowledged my sin to You, and my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, 'I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,' and You forgave the iniquity of my sin." (Psalm 32:5)

2. Yield to His Spirit

Make it a daily priority to seek the Lord through His Word and through prayer. As you do, He will speak to you, providing instruction, grace, and favour for the issues you face. We are called to live by the Spirit, which means we must follow His leading in every area of our lives.

"So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won't be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires." (Galatians 5:16-17 NLT)

Set your heart on overcoming this internal battle through sincere repentance and by yielding to the Holy Spirit. As you make this a regular practice, those destructive patterns will break, making way for the manifestation of God's purpose in your life.

The Urgency of Now

Many people reading this might be tempted to postpone dealing with their self-sabotaging behaviours, but doing so is only inviting trouble. As difficult as it may seem, the best time to confront these patterns is right now. If ignored, they will inevitably return to harm you. The Bible reminds us of this urgency:

"For He says, 'In an acceptable time I have heard you, and in the day of salvation I have helped you.' Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation." (2 Corinthians 6:2)

Remember: What you refuse to deal with when you are strong will eventually return to attack you when you are at your weakest. Do not sabotage your destiny!
