The Difference is Clear

“For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet perhaps for a good man some would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:7–8

We live in a world where it is becoming increasingly rare to find someone who genuinely cares for another person without expecting something in return. More often than not, love is given with conditions attached.

People naturally gravitate toward those who can benefit them, appreciate them, or reciprocate their kindness. Many are willing to do good only to those who have first done good to them or who may be useful to them in the future. Sadly, this has become the pattern of the world.

The Limits of Human Love
Human love is often conditional.
People tend to love those they find attractive, agreeable, talented, successful, or beneficial in some way. There is often an unspoken expectation: "This person must be worthy of my love."

The problem is that when circumstances change when beauty fades, personalities clash, or people fail love can quickly grow cold. Some even return acts of kindness only when they expect similar treatment in return.

Such love is fragile because it depends largely on the value people place on one another.

God's Love Breaks Every Pattern
God's love stands in complete contrast to the world's way of loving.

Romans 5:8 reveals something extraordinary:
"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

Notice the timing.
  • God did not wait until humanity repented.
  • He did not wait until people began obeying His commandments.
  • He did not wait until we proved ourselves worthy.
  • While the world was still living in rebellion against Him, God took the first step. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to bear our sins and die in our place.
  • That is love beyond human understanding.

Love Given
The Message Bible beautifully captures the heart of this truth:
"But God put his love on the line for us by offering his Son in sacrificial death while we were of no use whatever to him."

What an astonishing statement.
God's decision to save us was never based on what we could offer Him. We had nothing with which to repay His kindness, yet He freely gave His very best.

This is love with a striking difference.
  • It is selfless.
  • It is sacrificial.
  • It is unconditional.
  • There is another beautiful truth hidden in this passage.

If God loved you so deeply while you were still His enemy because of sin, how much more does He love you now that you belong to Him?

Do not allow the devil to convince you that you are beyond God's love because of your failures, weaknesses, or past mistakes.

Feelings are often unreliable. They rise and fall with circumstances, but God's love remains constant.

As one great servant of God wisely said:
"Though our feelings come and go, God's love does not."

His love is anchored in His unchanging nature, not in your changing emotions.

Rest in His Unchanging Love
  • Never lose sight of God's immeasurable love for you.
  • He loved you before you ever told your first lie.
  • He made provision for the forgiveness of your sins before you even understood what sin was.
  • Long before you ever thought of Him, He was already thinking of you.
  • He chose to love you not because you deserved it, but because that is who He is.

What amazing grace!
Live each day with a deep awareness of His unfailing love. Let that assurance drive out fear, silence every accusation of the enemy, and fill your heart with gratitude.

The God who loved you at your worst will never stop loving you now that you are His own.
