In today's times, we have wonderful cell phones. Some cell phones are expensive, and some are very smartly priced and inexpensive. Now you may have the most expensive phone on the planet, but if it is not connected to the tower, it is no good. You cannot do any profitable work with it besides playing some games. Staying connected is the key
Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. (John 15:4)
Only a connection to the Vine gives life.
Only by staying connected to the Vine can you produce fruit.
A Connection That Cannot Be Faked
There are some things in life that cannot be faked. One of them is our being connected to Jesus. Some try, but it is very evident after a while.
If I were to tape a branch to a tree, would the branch grow and get leaves and fruit on it? No. It's dead. Just because it is taped to a tree doesn't mean it is really connected to the tree. It needs to be connected to the tree's life-giving sap for that branch to be able to have life.
Lord Jesus said, "If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered" (John 15:6).
Beyond Attendance – A Real Relationship
It's easy for us to look like we are connected to Jesus. But if we are not really 'in' Christ connected to Him through His Word, through prayer and Holy Communion then like a branch that is not really connected to the vine our faith is going to wither out.
Many people attend our services, and I thank God for that. However, I often see many who, when the worship is happening, just look here and there. They easily get distracted, talk with someone etc.
Attendance is merely fulfilling religious obligations. It is a relationship that brings change. And how do we build a relationship? It is a connection that builds and sustains relationships.
So then, when you attend a service, get connected to the Spirit of God. When you are praying or reading your bible, get connected. Try and eliminate all distractions. You will see results soon.
Bible Reading: Song of Solomon 5-8; Isaiah 1
Prayer
Lord Jesus, You are indeed the True Vine. Help me always to stay connected to You. May my life produce fruit that will bring You glory and honour. Amen.
