Activate Those Things

Genesis is the book of beginnings. If you want to understand marriage, go to Genesis. If you want to understand work, wealth, family, purpose, and even the book of Revelation, you need to begin with Genesis. The seeds of almost every major biblical truth are first planted there. If we do not understand Genesis, we will struggle to understand how God works throughout the rest of Scripture.

The opening verses of the Bible reveal an important principle:

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light.” (Genesis 1:1–3)

When Everything Seems Empty

Perhaps that is exactly how your life feels today. Your business may seem without form. Your career may look empty. Your finances may appear chaotic. Your family situation may seem covered with darkness. Everywhere you look, there appears to be no hope.

The devil would love you to believe that God has abandoned you. He whispers that your situation will never change and that your prayers are pointless. But he is a liar.

Notice something remarkable. Before there was light, before there was order, before there was beauty, the Spirit of God was already there, hovering over the darkness. God’s presence was not absent because the situation looked hopeless. His Spirit was working even when nothing visible had yet changed.

That should encourage every believer. God has not walked away from you simply because your circumstances are difficult. His presence is often closest when everything around you appears to be falling apart.

Activate the Word

However, there is another truth we must not overlook.

The Spirit of God was moving over the waters, yet the darkness remained. Nothing visibly changed until God spoke.

“Then God said…”

The spoken Word activated what God intended to do.

This principle still applies today. If you are believing God for a job, speak His promises concerning His provision. If you desire spiritual growth, confess His Word daily. If you need healing, declare what Scripture says about your health. If you are praying for wisdom, speak God’s promises over your mind and decisions.

Faith is not silent. The Word of God was never meant to remain only in our hearts; it must also come out of our mouths. There is power in agreeing with God by speaking His Word over every situation.

Open your mouth. Speak life instead of fear. Speak faith instead of doubt. Speak God’s promises instead of your problems. As you continually align your words with God’s Word, you create room for His order to replace confusion.

Don’t Misunderstand God’s Ways

The less we understand how God functions, the more frustrated we become in our Christian journey. We begin to wonder why nothing seems to change. Some become disappointed with God. Others become offended with the Church. Sadly, some even walk away from the faith altogether.

But God has never changed His principles. He still watches over His Word to perform it. He still honours faith-filled words that agree with His promises.

Whatever area of your life appears to be without form and void today, don’t surrender to discouragement. Activate those things. Fill your heart with God’s Word, open your mouth, and boldly declare His promises. The same God who spoke light into the darkness is still bringing order, hope, and life wherever His Word is believed and spoken.
