Blessing
Then God said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing, since Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the Lord, to do righteousness and justice, that the Lord may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him.” (Genesis 18:17-19)
I am told that Jonathan Edwards, classic sermon, "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God," was so convicting that people who sat under his preaching would scream and fall to the floor in repentance.
Some would weep saying that they could feel the flames of hell scorching their feet. And yet, Jonathan Edwards, in his private life, was a very loving, compassionate man who enjoyed spending quality personal time with his family. Edwards has eleven children and he loved daily speaking a blessing over his children.
There was a study conducted that tracked the descendants of Jonathan Edwards and it was found that many were authors, professors, lawyers, ministers of the gospel and some even held high positions in the United States Government.
Hebrews 7:8-10 tells us of a very important principle that the actions taken by a father years before his children are born can impact those children positively or negatively depending on the actions taken.
Apostle Paul wrote about Abraham, and Melchizedek, the first king and priest in Jerusalem. Apostle Paul mentioned that Levi was paying tithes in Abraham's loins when Levi was not yet born something to really think about.
I appeal to every parent, before you go to bed, lay your hands on your children and speak blessing over them (it does not matter whether they are one or fifty years old). Pregnant women, lay your hands on your stomach and speak blessings over your child as many times you can throughout the day. Even those who are longing for a child, lay hands on your stomach and say, “my child will be a blessing to me and those around me.” I prophesy that your children will be great and attain high levels that none of your family members have ever reached before.
Confession
The blessing of the LORD is upon me and my family hence the work of my hands is blessed and brings glory and honor to the LORD. Amen.
