So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. (2 Corinthians 9:7)
Someone said, “Your attitude determines your altitude” How far you make progress in the Kingdom of God lies in your attitude.
What should be our attitude in giving our offerings to the Lord? Apostle Paul relates four heart attitudes when it comes to giving.
1.as each one has made up his own mind and purposed in his heart
2.not grudgingly (reluctantly)
3.not out of necessity (compulsion)
4.one should give cheerfully
We give to God not because God is hungry for our offerings. Man is born a taker. Giving always deals radically with our hearts. Something within us dies each time we give. When something inside dies it releases the life and power of God.
Some withdraw their giving because they got hurt somewhere down the line. Maybe no one appreciated them or celebrated them. Hence such stop giving to God’s work.
Then there are others who stopped giving because they read something negative about giving on social media. Just because someone was not faithful in handling church finances does not mean all are the same – that’s condemnation. Even today there are faithful pastors, leaders who do God’s ministry sacrificially.
Lastly, there are some who give expecting preferential treatment from the church or ministry they give to. You gave to the Lord and so you should expect your blessing from the Lord. When such people don’t get preferential treatment, they get offended. Many times we forget that we are only stewards of the resources and not Lords.
And in the process of time, it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the Lord. 4 Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the Lord respected Abel and his offering, 5 but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell. (Genesis 4:3-5)
Above is the story of two brothers raised in the same home, giving to the same God but their attitude toward giving varied greatly. One brother gave with the right attitude in love the best he had. One brother gave of the leftovers.

Father, Your word says, “no one can come to [Jesus] unless the Father draws them” (John 6:44). I ask that You draw all my members to Your Son Jesus, that they may know You personally and spend eternity with You.

Oh Lord deliver me from profitless and fruitless labour in Jesus name. Please bless the work of my hands. From now on all my investments and labour since the beginning of my career and ministry will begin to yield their full profit in Jesus name.
