Altar
Fire of God
Then Jeshua the son of Jozadak and his brethren the priests, and Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and his brethren, arose and built the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt offerings on it, as it is written in the Law of Moses the man of God. (Ezra 3:2)
The whole life of a Jewish person revolved around the temple of God. Now the scene was that the temple had been already destroyed by invading armies. Ezra was divinely inspired and commissioned to restore the fallen temple of God.
Interestingly, before they could build the temple, they build the altar of God. They started with the altar because it was a spiritual priority.
Always remember this principle, “You can have an altar and no temple but you cannot have a temple without an altar.” It is not the temple that sanctifies the gift but it is the altar that sanctifies the gift. The power does not come from the temple but from the altar. Everything that happens in the temple stems from the altar.
With this principle in mind then;
Before you can build a great ministry, build your prayer altar first.
Before you can build a house, build an altar first.
Before you build a marriage build an altar first.
Before you build a business build the altar first.
If you take care of this priority then all other things will fall in place.
Lord Jesus Himself spoke about the prioritization of the altar
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. (Matthew 6:33)
In essence, Lord Jesus was saying, if you prioritize building the altar over everything else then all other things will fall in place. This is a powerful principle that you and I must not neglect.
What is an altar?
An altar is a place of exchange. It is the meeting point between the spiritual and natural; a meeting point between divinity and humanity. An altar is the place where God meets man.
An altar is a place where destinies are altered.
In the Old Testament, the altar was a physical space. If you had to meet God, you could not do it anywhere else, you had to go to this altar. If you had to sacrifice, you had to go to this place to sacrifice. However, in the New Testament, the altar is a spiritual place. It is where the human spirit meets God’s Spirit.
Back in Bible days, the Jews had their altar in Jerusalem and the Samaritans had their altar in Samaria. Both argued that their place of altar was the right one. This led to great animosity between the Jews and the Samaritans. They would not even talk to each other because of this.
When Lord Jesus met the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well, He set the record straight.
Woman, the time has come when you won’t worship the Father on a mountain (in Samaria) nor in Jerusalem, but in your heart (spirit man) -John 4:21
We don’t build physical altars anymore because we are the temple of the Holy Ghost.
Make it your priority to seek the Lord daily in prayer, worship and the Word. Your altar has the power to alter your life.
