Categories : God's Favor
Now, therefore, I beg you, swear to me by the Lord, since I have shown you kindness that you also will show kindness to my father's house and give me a true token. (Joshua 2:12)

If you saw disaster looming on the horizon, what would you do to ensure your family's future? Rahab was such a one who put everything on the line for her family. She realized that it was only a matter of time before the Israelites crossed the river and conquered her city. Rahab desperately wanted to save her family.

When the two Israelite spies came to her door, instead of turning them in, she hid them from the men who were looking for them. Rahab now had favour with the two spies, and she was quick to spend it seeking safety for her family and herself. Rahab saw that Jericho had no future, and she didn't want it to be the same way with her family. Rahab spent her favour with the spies to buy life for herself and her family, not just physical life but spiritual life as well. Through her marriage to an Israelite named Salmon, Rahab became an ancestor of David and, later, of our Lord Jesus Christ himself. Not bad for a former harlot!

The divine favour of God is a potent, life-altering gift bestowed upon us. It's not earned or achieved; it's a pure act of God's grace and love towards us. However, with this divine gift comes a profound responsibility.

Don't spend your favour just on yourself. Please don't waste it on things that lead to death. There is too much at stake. The book of Proverbs offers a stern warning, "Whoever loves pleasure will be a poor man; he who loves wine and oil will not be rich." (Proverbs 21:17). The misapplication of favour leads to downfall and ultimately death.

Favour is for bringing life and fulfilling destiny. Therefore, divine favour, used wisely, should lead us closer to God, make us more Christ-like, and prepare us for our heavenly home.
