"For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit ... to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues" (1 Corinthians 12: 8, 10, NKJV).

Praying in Tongues actually unlocks other revelatory gifts of the Holy Spirit in your life, namely the Word of Wisdom, Word of Knowledge, Prophecy and Discerning of spirits.

Remember, you are not praying on a natural dimension, but rather engaging on a purely spiritual one. Don’t be surprised if, while praying in Tongues, the Holy Spirit gives you supernatural insight about something, leads you to pray for people and unlocks clarity over people, situations and even regions, enabling you to effectively pray for and break off the spiritual strongholds that are influencing them.

One word of caution: when you start praying in Tongues, initially you may not see anything happening at the start. Don’t give up.

On the voyage to discover America, as day after day no land appeared and again and again his sailors threatened mutiny and tried to persuade him to turn back. Columbus refused to listen to their entreaties and each day entered in the ship’s log-book the two words. “Sailed on!”

Also, because nothing is happening don’t start faking the Gifts of the Spirit (sadly as many do). Understand this, that first, a foundation has to be built. Be faithful in praying in Tongues regularly and you will see the Gifts of the Spirit manifesting like a torrent.

There was a man of God who one day after praying in Tongues for several hours was shocked when he could perceive evil spirits standing outside the door of his room and even heard their eerie cries. It was a scary new experience for him and He did not know that the Discerning of spirits was in operation. On another occasion, he was shocked to perceive words in the spirit realm by the spiritual senses. He did not know then that it was the Word of Knowledge in operation. Later, one Sunday service, he happened to turn around to look for any new visitor in his church. He was shocked to see words of a particular sin written all over a lady. It was a remarkable word of knowledge in operation.

Dave Roberson (Family Prayer Centre, Tulsa) spent eight hours daily for three months praying in Tongues. One day as he sat in church, the Lord opened his spiritual eyes to see something like an x-ray of a hip-socket. The socket had a dark substance all around the ball joint, extending three to four inches down the leg. He knew by the Spirit that this was for the elderly woman who was seated next to him.

As he leaned across to share what the Lord had shown him, the word “arthritis” just jumped out of his mouth. She confirmed this as correct since the doctors report also mentioned this. As Dave prayed, and at the very first mention of the name of Jesus, the woman’s shorter leg cracked and popped; it suddenly grew out until it was even with the other leg. The woman had been instantly, totally healed.

Each prayer point must be prayed at least for 2 minutes and more
