Wise men
Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod, the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, 2 saying, "Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him." (Matthew 2:1-2)
As a little child, I would often hear my mother speak of the wise men and how they travelled a very long distance to meet Lord Jesus Christ. With my little mind, I would often imagine how the wise men must have travelled on their camels.
As I was meditating on this passage of scripture, the Holy Spirit impressed upon me some life lessons that we all could learn from the wise men that came to meet our Lord Jesus.
1: It was customary for dignitaries to welcome and congratulate new rulers. The Bible tells us the wise men were Gentiles. The Lord often calls followers from unexpected places.
2: True wise men and women are seekers of the Lord. They know that the wisdom of the world is foolishness and only passing away. They are fully aware that true wisdom lies in seeking the Lord and His ways.
3: True wise men are worshipers. They worship the one who made all things. They worship Him with their substance (their possessions), with their time and abilities.
4: When the wise men inquired about Lord Jesus for whom they had travelled to worship,
"Then Herod, when he had secretly called the wise men, determined from them what time the star appeared. And he sent them to Bethlehem and said, "Go and search carefully for the young Child, and when you have found Him, bring back word to me, that I may come and worship Him also." (Matthew 2:7-9)
The wise men were warned in a dream not to return to Herod as he planned to kill the new King. Wise men know whom to associate with. They know that the right associations can make them, and the wrong ones can break them.
5: The wise men knew that no one is too far from God. The Lord will make every effort to reach out to people who are far from Him. In this case, the Lord used a star in the East to guide them towards Him. Though the journey was not easy, they knew that they were being divinely led.
God will never give up on anyone. Know this, all things that you are currently going through, all things that are happening around you will ultimately draw you to the one who called you because deep down, the Lord knows that you love Him and need Him.
I am sure that these nuggets from the wise men will help you walk more diligently with the LORD. Do let me know in the comments what more life lessons you learnt from the wise men.
