Will of God
Why is understanding God's will so important for a person?
Scripture clearly says, "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven." (Matthew 7:21)
Understanding God's will determines our happiness here on earth as well as in eternity. Mere lip service is not going to get you anywhere. What is really required is getting a sound understanding of the will of God for each of our lives.
We must make sure that we don't base our lives according to the changing Philosophies of the world and the opinions of men. We are to be wise and understand what the will of the Lord is. (Ephesians 5:17) Understanding the will of the Lord means we ought to have a proper understanding of the Word of God. God's word and His will are synonymous (closely associated).
If you remember the two brothers, Cain and Abel. Abel brought to God what was required by God, and Cain brought something he felt was right. The end result was that Abel's sacrifice was respected by God and Cain's sacrifice was rejected. (Read Genesis 4:3-5)
The Book of Hebrews stresses the fact that Abel offered a more excellent sacrifice than Cain.
By faith, Abel offered God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain (Hebrews 11:4)
We are all on this earth to carry out God's plans and to do His will - not ours.
Lord Jesus taught His disciples to pray, saying, "Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven" (Matthew 6:10)
Whatever we are building, whatever we are planning to execute, it must be according to His will and pattern. "Have the people of Israel build me a holy sanctuary so I can live among them. You must build this Tabernacle and its furnishings exactly according to the pattern I will show you. (Exodus 25:8-9)
Moses was wise enough to build the Tabernacle according to the pattern shown to him on the mountain. When he had done so, the Bible says, "the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle in such a strong manner that Moses could no longer enter it." (Exodus 40:34-35)
If you read the entire chapter (Exodus 40), you will notice that Moses did not even pray for the glory of the Lord to fill the Tabernacle.
Let me share with you a deep secret: When things are done according to the pattern shown to you by the Lord, when things are done according to the will of God, the Glory of God will literally stick or follow such a project, a venture, a ministry, a person.
