Resisting And Reversing the Works of Darkness
“Today, I appoint you to stand up against nations and kingdoms. Some you must uproot and tear down, destroy and overthrow. Others you must build up and plant.” (Jeremiah 1:10).
We have a responsibility as believers to oppose and destroy the works of darkness. Whatever you fail to resist will persist. Most believers are waiting on God to resist the devil in their lives. They are ignorant of the divine principle that places a responsibility on us to “resist the devil.”
The operations of the forces of darkness are real; we can see them in our community, news, and country. Many try to explain it with grammar, but a spiritual person knows that those things are spiritually engineered.
As believers, our goal is to imitate Christ by learning how he destroyed the works of the devil while He was on earth.
“How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.” (Acts 10:38)
What are the Weapons of the Enemy?
I cannot list out all the weapons of the enemy; the goal is to provide you with a few that will open your eyes to the operations of the wicked one. These few lists will give you spiritual understanding through the scriptures attached to them.
1. Sickness and Disease
One Sabbath day, as Jesus was teaching in a synagogue, he saw a woman who had been crippled by an evil spirit. She had been bent double for eighteen years and was unable to stand up straight. When Lord Jesus saw her, he called her and said, “Dear woman, you are healed of your sickness!” Then he touched her, and instantly she could stand straight.
Lord Jesus further said, “This dear woman, a daughter of Abraham, has been held in bondage by Satan for eighteen years.” (Luke 13:10-13, 16)
The devil had bound this woman for 18 years, and if Christ had not shown up, she would have died of the sickness. (Luke 13:16-17)
2. Accusations
The devil gets people to sin and still accuses them before God.
Then the angel showed me Jeshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord. The Accuser, Satan, was there at the angel’s right hand, making accusations against Jeshua. 2 And the Lord said to Satan, “I, the Lord, reject your accusations, Satan. Yes, the Lord, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebukes you. ((Zechariah 3:1-2)
Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. (Revelations 12:10)
In the face of the devil's accusations, we can find hope and strength in the truth of God's Word. Lord Jesus himself faced accusations from the devil, and he responded by quoting scripture and standing firm in his identity as the Son of God.
3. Manipulation, Fear, Doubt and Lies
The devil's attack is not limited to sickness and disease. If you are ignorant of the truth, the devil will sell lies for you. Manipulation and lies are door openers for sickness, disease, death, poverty, and all other attacks of the devil.
Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” (Matthew 4:3)
The devil is a master of deceit and will try to twist the truth and plant seeds of doubt in our minds. We can counteract this by regularly reading and meditating on the truth of God's Word, which is a sure and solid foundation for our faith.
4. Evil Arrows
Evil arrows are spiritual arrows shot at people either to kill them or to program the wrong things into their lives.
For look! The wicked bend their bow,
They make ready their arrow on the string,
That they may shoot secretly at the upright in heart. (Psalm 11:2)
Who sharpen their tongue like a sword,
And bend their bows to shoot their arrows—bitter words, (Psalm 64:3)
These evil arrows can take many forms; for example, bitter words. One way to resist evil arrows is to put on the armour of God, as described in Ephesians 6:10-17.
5. Blindness
When your spiritual understanding is opened, you will be liberated from the power of Satan to God. This can be a powerful and transformative experience to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.’ (Acts 26:18)
Whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them. (2 Corinthians 4:4)
6. Death, Depression and Barrenness
The spirit of death can operate in different ways, sometimes, people can slump and die, and at other times it may operate through suicide, accidents, natural disaster, wars, etc. The devil is behind stealing, killing, and destruction, and that should help you recognize the works of darkness. (John 10:10)
7. Failure and Poverty
Poverty is a major tool in the hand of the devil. He uses it to limit people’s destinies. There are lots of good things that you will do for the kingdom if you have money. Poverty has led many into prostitution, robbery, and desperation. It is the will of God that all your needs be met.
And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19)
8. Sin
Sin is the transgression of the law of God. If the devil can get you to disobey God, then he can operate unhindered. Your disobedience to God is a door opener to the devil.
Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. (1 John 3:4)
How Do We Destroy the Works of Darkness?
1).Engage the Force of Faith
There is no impossibility when you are operating by faith. Faith is needed to quench all the fiery arrows of the wicked. No matter what the devil has done, it can be reversed when you have faith. Lazarus was killed by sickness (devil’s handwork), but Christ showed up and reversed the evil. To men, it may look impossible, but to the man of faith, everything is possible. (Mark 9:23)
2).Engage the Truth
The truth is needed to destroy the effect of sickness, disease, manipulation, blindness, and many other works of darkness. The truth is a weapon, and nothing can be done against the truth. I need you to be hungry for the truth; it is something you have to discover personally. The truth you know determines the victory you’ll enjoy. (John 8:32,36)
3).Engage the force of Love
God is love, and when we exercise God’s love, it is a direct way of releasing the power of God over a situation. The more you walk in love, the more God’s power addresses contrary situations. You cannot overcome evil with evil; you can only overcome it with good. There is a powerful side of love, love is not weak, but many are yet to access the power side of love.
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. (Romans 12:21)
He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. (1 John 4:8)
4).Go for the Anointing
There is nothing too difficult for the anointing to destroy. (Isaiah 10:27) The anointing is the Spirit and word of God. As believers, you already have the anointing within you; you just need to make decrees and the right confessions and also pray with it. Isaiah 10:27
5).Exercise your Authority in Christ
The use of our authority is one of the legal ways that we can deal with the enemy. We have the authority of Christ to reverse whatever the enemy has done. If we fail to use our authority in binding, nothing would be done in heaven. (Matthew 15:13)
The purpose of Jesus' coming was to undo the works of darkness, and He gave believers the power to carry on the task. Are you ready to reverse and destroy the works of darkness? (1 John 3:8) Stop groaning and struggling. It is time to use your authority over the power of the enemy. I see things changing for the better in your life in Jesus' name.
