Dare to Dream

Now Joseph had a dream, and he told it to his brothers; and they hated him even more. So he said to them, “Please hear this dream which I have dreamed (Genesis 37:5-6)

We all have dreams and a plan to work out things in life. Some of us have it perfectly worked out step by step according to what they think is best. Others are in the process of figuring it out as they go with the flow.

Great outcomes often begin with dreams. Joseph had dreams that he would one day become a powerful leader.

Remember this all your life. A divine dream will always attract opposition. This is why I say dreams can be dangerous. Joseph’s dreams stirred the hatred of his own brothers. They did not like the idea of bowing down to Joseph. His dreams resulted in the brothers saying,

Now when they (his brother's) saw him afar off, even before he came near them, they conspired against him to kill him. Then they said to one another, “Look, this dreamer is coming! Come, therefore, let us now kill him and cast him into some pit; and we shall say, ‘Some wild beast has devoured him.’ We shall see what will become of his dreams!” (Genesis 37:18-20)

Sometimes, those dreams can get so crushed by the frustrations and routines of daily life that we no longer have the strength to accomplish them.

When that happens, we have a choice. We can become bitter and angry about being treated unfairly, or we can forgive those who hurt us and hindered our dream from being accomplished.

Joseph saw God’s hand at work in his life. After many years, when he was reunited with his brothers, he said, “But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.” (Genesis 50:20)

In the midst of pain and suffering, God worked supernaturally behind the scenes to protect Joseph and elevate him to a great position in Egypt.

Joseph’s dreams brought a blessing to so many lives. Joseph’s life prophetically pointed to the great deliverer who was to come – Lord Jesus Christ.

When you surrender your dreams to the Lord and allow His word to work in your life, your dreams will surely come to pass. Trust Him, and you will surely make it.

Father, thank you for the dreams you have given me. Even when I cannot make sense of what is going around me, I believe all things are working in my favour because of Your hand upon my life. In Jesus, Amen.
