A certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, "Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord. And the creditor is coming to take my two sons to be his slaves."
So Elisha said to her, "what do you have in the house?" And she said, "Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil." Then he said, "Go, borrow vessels from everywhere….and when you have come in, you shall shut the door behind you and your sons; then pour it into all those vessels, and set aside the full ones." Now it came to pass, when the vessels were full, she came and told the man of God. And he said, "Go, sell the oil and pay your debt; and you and your sons live on the rest." (2 Kings 4:1-7)
God often mixes faith with the tangible. Woman's husband had died. There was no way to fulfil her debts. Her creditors decided to enslave her two sons for payment of the obligations that still remained. She pleaded for assistance with the only man of God she knew. The widow believed she had no resources to meet her needs.
God said she had more than enough resources. She did not see the one jar of oil as a resource. It did not become a resource until it was mixed with faith.
For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. (Hebrews 4:2)
Her need was met when her faith was mixed with the practical step of going into the marketplace to sell what she had in order to receive her needed income.
In fact, there was so much income that she was able to pay her debts and live on the money derived from the sale. Quite often, we forget that God works through our jobs or livelihood to provide for our needs. However, it is wrong to place total trust in our jobs without faith in God.
God often requires simple obedience to an act that seems ridiculous to the logical mind. It is this faith mixed with the practical stuff that God honours. Do you have a problem that is perplexing you? Do you see no way of meeting your need? God may have already given you the skills and talents to meet your need.
However, He may be waiting for you to mix them with faith. Ask God to show you the steps necessary to solve your problem. Maybe you need to apply to some recruitment agencies or just mass mail your CV etc. Whatever, be willing to take the next step. That's the step of faith into the miraculous.

Father, I draw near to You with a true heart full of assurance and faith. I ask You for Your wisdom to come into this particular situation (name the situation). I know that this thing will work out for my good and for Your glory. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
