“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” (Galatians 2.20)
What happened at the new birth in the life of every believer was the exchange of our former sinful nature (death) for the nature of Christ (life). The new life we received during the salvation of Christ is a life of faith. A life where we no longer become defined by our past mistakes or under the influence of our former master, the devil. We became new creatures, sanctified and justified. Dead to our old self and alive in Christ. (2 Corinthians 5:17)
Faith, interchangeable with belief, can be defined as a set of rules, philosophy, values, truth, and mindset that guide an individual or a set of people in their behaviour, interactions, and decision making. These rules govern an individual’s life and can be said to be a defining factor of a man’s lifestyle. When people change their lifestyles, we can say that their beliefs have been altered or changed.
As believers, we have been called to a life of faith. A life where our desires, aspirations, focus, and concentration are determined by our master, Jesus Christ. We no longer have the luxury to think for ourselves or make decisions on our treaty because we are ruled by a master who is our Lord Jesus Christ.
Our acceptance of the life of Christ brought us to a place of total submission to the guidelines and rules of God’s kingdom. Christianity has been defined as more than just a religion but a lifestyle because it goes beyond just religious activities but requires living applications. (2 Peter 1:3)
The faith we practice as Christians is not just a religion but a lifestyle that characterizes every area of our lives. Be it socially, morally, financially, mentally, psychologically, etc. Christianity is life patterned after Christ. The apostles of Jesus were the first living example of what or who a Christian should be. (Acts 11:26b) They understood the life they had received was of faith and should be expressed because it had become a nature. The people in Antioch took notice of them and called them Christians, meaning “Little Christ.”
How long have you been a Christian? What are the areas of your life you have allowed this new life find expression? In Acts 6:4, the Apostles simplify the requirements of this life. “But we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” Are you a person of the word and prayer? Are you living the life of faith?
