Rain. It’s a common occurrence, especially during the monsoon season in Mumbai. Yet, for many of us, rain is more of an inconvenience than a blessing. It disrupts our daily routines, messes up our clothes, soils our shoes, and often forces us to cancel outdoor plans. Our obsession with comfort makes us yearn for dry, sunny days. However, just as rain is crucial for the survival of cities and agriculture, it is also a profound metaphor for blessings in our lives.
The Bible frequently uses rain as a metaphor for blessings. Deuteronomy 28:12 says, "The LORD will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none." This verse highlights how God’s blessings, like rain, are vital for our prosperity and success.
The Discomfort of Blessings
Interestingly, our reactions to rain often mirror our responses to blessings. Just as rain can be inconvenient, blessings sometimes come in forms that challenge our comfort zones. They might require us to confront difficult truths, change our habits, or step out in faith. Yet, these challenges are often the very means through which God works to mature and refine us.
Consider the rain of an honest friend, a pastor, or a mentor who confronts us with the truth. Proverbs 27:17 states, "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another." This sharpening process is rarely comfortable, but it is necessary for growth. God sends these individuals into our lives to correct and guide us, ultimately blessing us with maturity and wisdom.
Shifting Our Perspective
How about changing our perspective on rain and blessings? Next time it rains, instead of seeing it as a nuisance, why not see it as a reminder of God's provision? Take a moment to look out your window and thank God for the rain. Reflect on the ways He has blessed you, even through challenges and discomfort.
Ephesians 1:3 says, "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ." This verse assures us that God’s blessings are abundant and ever-present, even if they come in unexpected forms.
Let’s ask God to give us eyes to see the surprising blessings He rains down on us because He loves us.
Prayer
Father, in every drop of rain, may we see Your blessings. Let Your favour surround me and my family. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
