Why is it that some Christians succeed while others who seem to make a profession of faith miserably fail? Our life is filled with choices. God spoke to Israel His people saying, “You, chose that in which I do not delight (Isaiah 66:4)
From this, we can understand that our choices are important. The choices we make today determine our future tomorrow. Our choices today are the seed for our harvest tomorrow. Our choices must be those that bring God delight otherwise, it’s evil in His sight.
The Lord spoke saying, “Put the Urim and the Thummim in the breast piece. . . . Thus Aaron will always bear the means of making decisions . . . over his heart before the Lord. (Exodus 28:29-30)
Here we see, tucked into the breast piece of the Aaron the High Priest were “the Urim and the Thummim – two stones that were used in asking God about His will when certain crucial decisions or choices had to be made. The Urim and Thummim were a wonderful gift to the nation of Israel, but they could only be used by the High priest of Israel.
On the Mount of Transfiguration (Tabor), Lord Jesus was with His closest disciples Peter, James, and John, when they heard God’s voice saying: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!” (Matthew 17:5)
These disciples had a powerful encounter with the Glory of Jesus the Son of God that day. They did not understand this event until later after Jesus rose from the dead, but they remembered what God said: “Listen to Him!”
The world screams at us saying “Just listen to your heart”, “If it feels good just do it” You and I need not make our choices and life decisions based on how we feel or what we know.
Today we must trust our ultimate High Priest, Lord Jesus who is the Living Word of God. Our choices and life decisions need to be based on the Word of God if we are truly listening to Him.
God’s word says, “Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. (2 Timothy 2:22)
Choices influenced by the word of God will result in blessings, both seen and unseen. However, incorrect choices based on feelings, emotions, peer pressure can be, and most likely will be, “blessing-blockers”.
