From the very beginning, God has demonstrated that strategy is key to creating order and achieving excellence. Before He created fish, He prepared water. Before He placed birds in the sky, He formed the heavens. Genesis 1:2-10 (NKJV) reveals a clear sequence: God laid the foundation, then filled it with life.
This principle teaches us an important lesson: God never acts without a plan. Strategy is woven into the very fabric of His creation. If we want to experience a better tomorrow, we must prepare for it today.
Lord Jesus: The Strategic Savior
Jesus didn’t just show up in the world without preparation. God meticulously planned His coming. Scripture contains countless prophetic pictures, each providing a glimpse of the Messiah. From Isaiah’s prophecy of the virgin birth (Isaiah 7:14, NIV) to Micah’s pinpointing of Bethlehem as His birthplace (Micah 5:2, TPT), God’s strategy unfolded over centuries.
In Galatians 4:4 (AMPC), Paul writes, “But when the proper time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born subject to the regulations of the Law.” God chose the exact moment in history when the Roman Empire’s roads and infrastructure would allow the rapid spread of the gospel. Every detail was perfectly orchestrated.
Imagine if Jesus had been born in a time or place where His message couldn’t reach the masses. God’s strategic timing ensured that His message would impact the entire world.
Pentecost: A Day of Divine Strategy
The Holy Spirit’s arrival at Pentecost was no coincidence. God chose a particular day when people from every nation under heaven were gathered in Jerusalem. Acts 2:1-4 (MSG) describes the dramatic moment: “Without warning there was a sound like a strong wind… and it filled the whole building. Then, like a wildfire, the Holy Spirit spread through their ranks.”
This wasn’t random. The day of Pentecost was a Jewish festival celebrating the harvest, and Jerusalem was packed with visitors. When the Holy Spirit descended, people from different nations heard the gospel in their own languages (Acts 2:6-11, NKJV). These visitors carried the message back to their homelands, spreading the fire of the Holy Spirit far and wide.
Strategy in Everyday Life
If God uses strategy to accomplish His plans, how much more should we? Proverbs 21:5 (TPT) says, “Brilliant ideas pay off and bring you prosperity, but making hasty, impatient decisions will only lead to financial loss.” Planning isn’t just practical; it’s biblical.
I once met a young entrepreneur who felt called to start a business that would support missions work. Instead of diving in headfirst, he spent a year researching the industry, building a network, and seeking God’s guidance. Today, his business thrives, and he supports missionaries worldwide. His success wasn’t an accident; it was the result of divine strategy coupled with faithful action.
The Role of the Holy Spirit in Strategy
God doesn’t leave us to figure everything out on our own. The Holy Spirit is our guide, offering divine wisdom and insight. John 16:13 (NKJV) says, “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth.” Seeking the Holy Spirit’s direction is essential in crafting strategies for our lives, families, and ministries.
Practical Steps to Develop a Godly Strategy
1.Start with Prayer
Ask God for His vision for your life. Proverbs 3:5-6 (MSG) reminds us, “Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do.”
2.Write Down Your Plan
Habakkuk 2:2 (NKJV) says, “Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it.” Writing clarifies your goals and keeps you accountable.
3.Seek Counsel
Proverbs 15:22 (AMPC) advises, “Where there is no counsel, purposes are frustrated, but with many counsellors, they are accomplished.” Surround yourself with godly mentors and advisors.
4.Take Action
A strategy is only as effective as the steps you take to implement it. James 2:17 (NKJV) says, “Faith by itself if it does not have works, is dead.” Trust God to bless your efforts as you move forward in obedience.
5.Be Flexible
Sometimes, God adjusts our plans. Stay open to His redirection, knowing that His strategy is always perfect (Isaiah 55:8-9, NKJV).
Ask Yourself
- Are there areas in my life where I have been acting without a clear strategy?
- How can I invite the Holy Spirit into my planning process?
- What steps can I take today to prepare for the future God has for me?
