Strategies to Run the Race

Therefore then, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses [who have borne testimony to the Truth],...(Hebrews 12:1 Amplified)

Do you see what this means—all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we’d better get on with it. (Hebrews 12:1 Message)

We are to remember that we are not alone in this race. We need to remember that, we are being watched by a great cloud of witnesses. These are people who stood in and lived the truth and are now with the Lord. The good news is that they are not only watching us; they are cheering us on. Remembering this, we need to get on with the race. We cannot just hang out.

Secondly, scripture says, “let us strip off and throw aside every encumbrance (unnecessary weight) and that sin which so readily (deftly and cleverly) clings to and entangles us, (Hebrews 12:1 (b) Amplified)

If you see modern athletes, there are no flappy clothes or unnecessary weights on their body. This makes them run their race in the shortest of time.

I am also told that the most common materials used for racing cars are carbon (graphite) which are the lightest materials. This makes them use less fuel, less drag and improves performance.

Likewise, while running the spiritual race, we need to strip ourselves of anything that slows us down or holds us back. Today, take a good look and check what are the things that are slowing you and holding you back from running the spiritual race effectively.

Scripture then tells us that sin also entangles us and literally trips us as we run the race. Now imagine tripping while you are running a race, it may totally eliminate you from the race or really slow you down. This is why we need to stay away from sin.

I like one of Prophet T.B.Joshua’s prayers “Lord, give me grace to stay away from sin and be always close to you.”
