What is Yom Kippur?
Yom Kippur is the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. Leviticus 16 outlines the biblical prescriptions for this day, where the high priest would enter the Holy of Holies to make atonement for the sins of the people. It's a day to reflect on one's actions, seek forgiveness, and make right with God and fellow humans.
What is the Prophetic Significance of Yom Kippur?
Yom Kippur holds a profound prophetic significance that goes beyond its historical observance. Many theologians see the Feast of Trumpets (Rosh Hashanah) as signalling the Rapture of the Church and Yom Kippur as symbolising the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.
The ten days between these two events, known as the "Ten Days of Awe," could metaphorically represent the tribulation period described in Revelation.
Zechariah 12:10 mentions a future time when the people of Jerusalem will look upon the one they have pierced and mourn for Him as for an only child. This points to a collective realisation and repentance that is very much in the spirit of Yom Kippur.
The Day of Atonement (known as Yom Kippur), in a prophetic sense, serves as a culmination point where humanity realises the true Messiah and where atonement takes a universal dimension.
What Should We Do About It?
This year, 2023, Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement) falls on 25 September. Millions of Jewish people all around the world will be fasting and praying. They will be making themselves vulnerable to the Holy Spirit—whether they know it or not.
- When we pray for the salvation of the Jews, the LORD will surely remember and bless our generations to come. (Genesis 12:1-2)
- When we pray, you and I will fulfil the prophetic mandate of Isaiah 62:6-7 of being a watchman on the walls of Jerusalem.
- When we pray for the salvation of the Jews, a great revival of signs and wonders will break out in our churches, cities and nations.
