In Revelation 20:1-3, an angel descends from heaven with a key to the bottomless pit and a great chain, symbolizing delegated authority from God to bind Satan for a thousand years. The bottomless pit, or "abyss" (Greek: abyssos), is a spiritual prison for demonic forces, possibly located in the sea, as suggested by Jewish teachings and biblical references like Amos and Luke 8:31.
