Any branch in Me that does not bear fruit [that stops bearing] He cuts away (trims off, takes away); and He cleanses and repeatedly prunes every branch that continues to bear fruit, to make it bear more and richer and more excellent fruit. (John 15:2)
Notice the threefold purpose of pruning
1.To make it bear more fruit
2.To make it bear richer fruit
3.To make it bear more excellent fruit
How does this cleansing and pruning happen in a Christian's life?
You are cleansed and pruned already, because of the word
which I have given you [the teachings I have discussed with you]. (John 15:3 Amplified)
The word primarily does two things
1. Cleanses
2. Prunes
Do you know when and where Jesus spoke those same words?
It was in the upper room when Lord Jesus washed the feet of His disciples. Do you remember Peter
asked Jesus to wash not only his feet but his entire being?
Jesus answered Peter saying, “Anyone who has bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is clean all over.” (John 13:10)
As a person who believes in Jesus we are washed clean in the blood of Jesus. We have taken a bath.
And we according to this scripture we need to daily wash our feet
What does it mean to daily wash our feet?
We need to daily get into the word so that the LORD can, “make us holy and pure, cleansing us through the showering of the pure water of the Word of God.” (Ephesians 5:26 TPT)
Dwell in Me, and I will dwell in you. [Live in Me, and I will live in you.] Just as no branch can bear fruit of itself without abiding in (being vitally united to) the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you abide in Me. (John 15:4)
Notice it says ‘dwell’ not visit. God desires habitation and not just a casual visitation. The secret to bearing fruit is being joined/united with Him.
If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. (John 15:7)
The condition: If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you
- Abiding in Him
- His word abiding in us
The result: you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you
This is the secret to answered prayer
No longer do I call you servants, for a servant, does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. (John 15:15)
In the Bible, being a servant of God was no shame, it was a position of status and high honor. Moses, Joshua and David were all called servants of God. The apostle Paul even identified himself as a slave of the Lord Jesus Christ, which he too considered to be an honor.
From Paul, a bondservant (meaning a slave) of Jesus Christ (the Messiah) called to be an apostle, (a special messenger) set apart to [preach] the Gospel (good news) of and from God (Romans 1:1 Amplified)
The Lord is calling us to a greater level of intimacy so that we can hear the voice of our Lord, who calls us His friends. What a privilege!
