Therefore be imitators of God [copy Him and follow His example], as well-beloved children [imitate their father]. (Ephesians 5:1)
Be imitators of God in everything you do, for then you will represent your Father as his beloved sons and daughters. 5:1 (TPT)
Children generally imitate their fathers. If we are true children of God then we too will imitate God. As children seek to please their father, so also the children of God should seek to please their heavenly Father.
And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma. (Ephesians 5:2)
Six times in the epistle of Ephesians, Paul used the term "walk." Walk in good works (Ephesians 2:10), walk worthy of the calling you've received (Ephesians 4:1), walk no longer as the Gentiles do (Ephesians 4:17), walk in love (this verse), walk as children of light (Ephesians 5:8), and walk circumspectly (Ephesians 5:15).
Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. (Ephesians 5:16)
To redeem something means to buy it back, to regain possession of it. Time is a precious gift from God. Rather than wasting our time on frivolous pursuits that leave no lasting imprint, Scripture instructs us to be diligent about doing good (Titus 3:8).
And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit (Ephesians 5:18)
And don’t get drunk with wine, which is rebellion; instead, be filled with the fullness of the Holy Spirit. 5:18 TPT
Just like it is important to drink water at regular intervals daily (medical science says an average of 7-8 glasses of water) in order to sustain life and health, we must continuously dwell in the presence of God's Holy Spirit.
