When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless. And I will make My covenant between Me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly.” (Genesis 17:1-2)
God confirmed His covenant with Abraham. The Lord introduced Himself to Abraham with a new name, previously unknown to mankind.
The name "Almighty God" consists of the Hebrew words El-Shaddai. The word El means "strong or mighty" The word Shaddai means the "breasted one' or "nourishing one".
Shaddai is also a feminine word. God was revealing to Abraham saying, "I will be the total provider for you in time to come, just as a mother provides for her child." Most of us picture Almighty God as strong and powerful but today’s scripture (Genesis 17:1-2) tells us He is also tender like a mother (in fact much more than a mother can be)
A mother’s love and care for her children builds in them emotional stability and healthy self-confidence. During this pandemic, some of you might have lost a dear one or something of value i.e. a job, a business, etc. His love can heal every hurt from the past, restore your heart, and fill any emotional void that you may have in your soul.
Know that, no matter what you are going through today, you can cling to the truth that God is El Shaddai—The All-Sufficient One. Whatever you need God is. “ Is anything too hard for the Lord?” (Genesis 18:14 NIV)
