Lifted by Grace
“He lifts the poor from the dust and the needy from the garbage dump.” (1 Samuel 2:8 NLT)
Another word for lifted by grace is divine elevation. No matter your current level of success, God always has a higher and better place for you. Jesus said, “You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14), and Scripture declares that “the path of the righteous shines brighter and brighter until the perfect day” (Proverbs 4:18).
Grace is God’s unmerited favour. We cannot earn it, and we do not qualify for it. It is simply bestowed by God. Jesus is described as the One who is “full of grace and truth” (John 1:14, 17). His life displayed the grace of God through healing the sick, raising the dead, feeding the hungry, and covering the shame of the couple at the wedding in Cana. Everything Jesus did revealed what the grace of God can accomplish in the life of a believer.
So yes, we desperately need the grace of God.
What can grace do in a person’s life?
And what happens when grace is lacking?
The Importance of the Grace of God
1. Grace Is Needed When Human Strength Fails
There are moments when you reach the end of your own ability. At such times, you can no longer rely on your strength you can only lean on God.
2 Corinthians 12:9 declares:
“My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.”
When your strength ends, grace begins.
2. Grace Is Needed for Impossible Assignments
When God gives you a task beyond your capacity, it is grace that carries you.
Zechariah 4:6–7:
“Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit… Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain… with shouts of ‘Grace, grace to it!’”
Grace levels mountains.
3. Grace Is Needed When Hope Seems Lost
Like Peter who said, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing” (Luke 5:5), you may feel you have tried everything. Yet at His word, your breakthrough can manifest.
Grace rewrites hopeless situations.
4. Grace Is Needed When People Look Down on You
Nathanael asked, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” (John 1:46).
Gideon said, “My clan is the weakest… and I am the least” (Judges 6:15–16).
But God answered:
“Surely I will be with you.”
Grace lifts the unlikely.
5. Grace Enables You to Enjoy Blessings You Didn’t Work For
Jesus said,
“I sent you to reap that for which you have not laboured…”
— John 4:38
Grace qualifies the unqualified.
6. Grace Empowers You for Greater Works
Jesus said:
“He who believes in Me… greater works than these he will do.”
— John 14:12
Grace is the fuel for extraordinary exploits.
7. Grace Is Needed to Receive Anything from God
Without grace, no one can stand before God.
Hebrews 4:16:
“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
Grace gives you access.
8. 3 Months of Grace > 30 Years of Labour
Grace brings supernatural speed—divine acceleration that removes natural procedures and protocols.
1 Kings 18:46:
“The hand of the Lord came upon Elijah… and he outran the chariots of Ahab.”
This same hand can rest upon you.
Grace is often the difference between the gifted and the lifted. Many brilliant minds remain unemployed; many beautiful women remain unmarried; many talented individuals remain unseen. But when grace steps in, destinies shift instantly. A life without grace struggles endlessly. But a life under grace flourishes effortlessly.
Cry out for grace. The more conscious you are of God’s grace, the more you will see it at work in your life.
Biblical Examples of Those Lifted by Grace
Mephibosheth
According to tradition, the lame were not permitted in the palace. Yet grace located Mephibosheth. King David said,
“Is there still someone… that I may show the kindness of God?” (2 Samuel 9:3)
Grace carried him from Lo-debar to the king’s table.
Joseph
As a foreigner, Joseph was not qualified to govern Egypt, yet grace qualified him.
Pharaoh said:
“Without your consent no man may lift his hand or foot…”
— Genesis 41:38–44
Grace makes you rule where you were never expected to stand.
Esther
A slave girl became queen in a foreign land. Grace broke every protocol.
Esther 2:17:
“She obtained grace and favour… more than all the virgins.”
David
Grace took David from the backside of the desert to the throne of Israel.
2 Samuel 7:8:
“I took you from the sheepfold… to be ruler over My people.”
The same grace can rewrite your destiny.
What to Do to Enjoy and Grow in Grace
1. Pray for Grace
“If I have found grace in Your sight… show me now Your way.”
— Exodus 33:13
2. Walk in Humility
“God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
— James 4:6
3. Be Gracious to Others
Whatever you want God to do for you, do for others.
— Matthew 5:7
4. Study and Grow in Grace Awareness
“Be diligent… rightly dividing the word of truth.”
— 2 Timothy 2:15
5. Be Thankful Always
“In everything give thanks…”
— 1 Thessalonians 5:18
6. Seek Impartation from Men and Women Who Carry Grace
Grace can be imparted.
Numbers 11:17:
“I will take of the Spirit that is upon you and put the same upon them.”
