If you keep doing the same things, you cannot expect anything new.
Think about cooking. If you use the same ingredients in the same way every day, you will get the same dish every time. But if you change something in the recipe even one ingredient the outcome changes.
Life works the same way.
If you want a new harvest, you must sow a new seed. Change will always affect both the quality and the quantity of your results.
What Is Stopping You from Changing?
Many people desire change, but very few actually experience it. Why?
Because certain hidden forces hold them back.
In this series, we will look at five powerful hindrances that stop people from stepping into a new season. (Today we will take a look at two and tomorrow we will deal with the rest)
1. Pride – “I Don’t Need to Change”
Pride is one of the biggest barriers to transformation.
Pride says, “I am fine the way I am.”
Pride says, “I know better.”
Pride says, “I will do things my way.”
But here is the truth God cannot work with a heart that refuses to change.
Pride is always trying to protect its current state. It resists correction. It avoids accountability. It refuses to surrender.
On the other hand, humility opens the door to growth.
Romans 12:2 says:
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…”
Transformation begins when we allow God to change the way we think.
Sometimes, the biggest problem is not outside—it is inside.
There may be areas in our lives where we secretly feel we don’t need to improve. But real growth begins when we say:
“Lord, change me.”
It may not be comfortable. It may even feel painful. But it will produce powerful results.
2. Fear – “I Am Afraid to Change”
- If pride says, “I don’t need to change,”
- fear says, “I am afraid to change.”
Fear keeps people stuck.
It tells you:
- “What if it doesn’t work?”
- “What will people say?”
- “What if I fail again?”
So instead of moving forward, people stay where they are—even if they are unhappy.
They hold on to what is familiar, even if it is average.
Many people know they are in the wrong place, doing the wrong thing, living below their potential—but they stay because it feels safe.
But safe is not always God’s best.
2 Timothy 1:7 reminds us:
“God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
Fear is not from God.
Don’t Settle for Good
There is a powerful truth:
“Good is often the enemy of the best.”
Sometimes we settle for what is comfortable instead of stepping into what God has prepared for us.
Past disappointments, failures, and hurts can make us afraid to try again. But your past does not have to control your future.
It’s time to break free.
It’s time to step out of fear.
Like Peter stepping out of the boat, you may feel uncertain—but when your eyes are on Jesus, you will not sink.
Change requires courage.
But on the other side of that courage is growth, breakthrough, and a new season.
So, if you truly want something new in your life, something must change.
Let go of pride.
Break free from fear.
And trust God enough to step into the unknown.
Because when you change…
Everything around you begins to change.
