“Now Joseph had a dream, and he told it to his brothers; and they hated him even more. So he said to them, ‘Please hear this dream which I have dreamed.’” (Genesis 37:5–6)
We all carry dreams within us. Some people have their lives carefully planned step by step, believing they know what is best. Others are still discovering their path, moving forward one step at a time.
But one truth remains: great outcomes often begin with a dream. Joseph was one such dreamer. God gave him a glimpse of his future—a vision of leadership and influence.
Dreams Attract Opposition
Remember this throughout your life: a divine dream will always attract opposition.
Joseph’s dreams stirred jealousy and hatred in the hearts of his own brothers. They could not accept the thought of bowing down to him. His dream offended their pride and threatened their position.
Scripture tells us:
“Now, when they saw him afar off, even before he came near them, they conspired against him to kill him. Then they said to one another, ‘Look, this dreamer is coming! Come therefore, let us now kill him and cast him into some pit; and we shall say, “Some wild beast has devoured him.” We shall see what will become of his dreams!’” (Genesis 37:18–20)
What a powerful statement: “We shall see what will become of his dreams.”
The enemy often uses people, situations, and circumstances to challenge what God has spoken over your life.
When Dreams Feel Crushed
At times, dreams can feel distant and even shattered. The routines of daily life, disappointments, betrayals, and delays can drain our strength and passion.
Joseph experienced this firsthand betrayed by his own brothers, sold into slavery, falsely accused, and imprisoned. From the outside, it seemed like his dream was dying.
In such moments, we are faced with a choice:
- Will we become bitter and angry because of unfair treatment?
- Or will we choose forgiveness and continue to trust God?
God Works Behind the Scenes
Joseph chose to trust God. Even when nothing made sense, he remained faithful.
Years later, when he stood in a position of authority in Egypt and was reunited with his brothers, he made a profound statement:
“But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.” (Genesis 50:20)
What others intended for harm, God used for good.
This reveals a powerful truth: God is always working behind the scenes, even in seasons of pain and silence. Every delay, every betrayal, and every hardship was part of a divine process preparing Joseph for his destiny.
A Dream That Blesses Many
Joseph’s dream was never just about him. It was about saving nations, preserving lives, and fulfilling God’s greater purpose.
His life also prophetically points to our ultimate Deliverer the Lord Jesus Christ who was rejected, betrayed, and yet became the Savior of the world.
When God gives you a dream, it is often bigger than you. It carries the potential to bless many lives.
The key is not just to have a dream, but to surrender that dream to the Lord.
When you allow God’s Word to shape you, refine you, and lead you, your dream will not be destroyed it will be fulfilled in His perfect time.
Trust Him, even when the journey is difficult. Trust Him, even when the dream seems delayed.
Because in the end, what God has spoken over your life will surely come to pass.
Hold on to your dream.
Guard your heart against bitterness.
Stay faithful in the process.
And remember:
If God gave you the dream, He will also bring it to fulfilment.
