A Different Jesus, Different Spirit, and Another Gospel

The Apostle Paul called together the elders of the church at Ephesus, and his final words to these beloved saints were:

“ ²⁹ For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. ³⁰ Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves.” (Acts 20:29-30).

Notice carefully that Paul warned not only about attacks coming from outside the church, but also from within. Men would arise speaking “perverse things” in order to draw disciples after themselves. Their goal would not be to glorify Christ, but to gather followers around themselves.

Apostle Paul was amazed by how easily some of the Galatians were swayed:

“ ⁶I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, ⁷ which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. ⁸ But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.” (Galatians 1:6-8).

Paul did not treat false doctrine lightly. He used the strongest possible language because the purity of the Gospel was at stake.

How Do We Recognise Another Gospel?

How shall we know then what is the true Gospel and what is accursed? The Bible gives us clear warnings.

1. Any Teaching That Says There Are Other Ways to Salvation

The Bible teaches that Jesus Christ is the only Saviour of the world. Lord Jesus said:

“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6).

Jesus is not a way He is the way.
Jesus is not merely “a” truth He is the truth.
Jesus is more than just a good man, a teacher, or a prophet; He is the virgin-born, only begotten Son of God.

Any teaching that says there are many paths to God directly contradicts the words of Christ Himself. Those who teach that there are other ways to salvation are preaching, as the Apostle Paul said, “another gospel” and “another Jesus.”

2 . Any Teaching That Undermines the Fear of God

Only the powerful and absolute fear of God kept Adam and Eve from disobeying Him initially. It was not merely their love for God, nor even their daily communion with Him. It was this command:

“ ¹⁶ And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, ‘Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; ¹⁷ but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.’” (Genesis 2:16-17).

But satan came with a slick and subtle message:

“You shall not surely die.” (Genesis 3:4)

This was a total perversion of truth another gospel! Yet it was exactly what Eve wanted to hear. Something inside her resisted God’s commandment. The restriction of God seemed too severe to her.

satan immediately began to downplay the fear of God:

“Did God really say this? God is not like that. You have the wrong concept of Him. Surely you will not die!”

This same spirit still operates today. Any message that removes the fear of God, excuses sin, and makes rebellion appear harmless is dangerous.

God’s Word says:

“By the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.” (Proverbs 16:6)

In Book of Proverbs 14:12 we read:

“There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end, it leads to death.”
