Walking by Faith

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7)

The scripture is a catalogue of people who, through faith, walked with God. Enoch, Abraham, Hannah, David, Hezekiah, Daniel, the three Hebrew men, and so many others. They were not extraordinary men but ordinary men who, through perfect trust and surrender, saw God as their only sustenance. They trusted God too much to allow any cloud of doubt to arise in them.

What It Means to Walk by Faith

To walk by faith is to fully trust in God and adhere to His will and commandments. It is to deliberately give Him full control of our lives. A cursory look at the life of Abraham would help us to see how faith can transform a man from whatever he is to what God wants him to be.

Abram was introduced to us like any other biblical character, but then the defining moment came: God spoke to him to leave where he was and go to a new place He would show him. As a token of trust, his name was changed to Abraham.

He was called from a place he was well familiar with into a place he didn’t even know, but he obeyed! He didn’t ask for an address or descriptions; he did not tender his plans and ambitions before God. He just obeyed!

God Desires Complete Surrender

This degree of trust is what God demands from us today. We must get to a point in our lives where we stop driving and give Him the wheel! He cannot be Lord of some; He is either Lord of all or not Lord at all.

God wants us to trust Him for everything where we would be, what we would do, and how we would do it. This is what it means to walk by faith. To walk by faith is to follow through on God’s instructions without doubt or hesitation. For Christians, walking by faith is not an option; it’s a necessity.

Faith Is Essential to Please God

The Bible says in Hebrews 11:6

“But without faith, it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”

This is a pointer to the fact that faith is imperative in our Christian walk. God is not physically present with us now, but through His Word, we know of His potency and power.

Hence, faith is the only way through which we can truly follow God. If we do not trust Him, we can’t look up to Him; if we do not depend on Him, He can’t help us. It’s that simple!

If you want to see your walk with God become more cordial and fruitful, you must depend on Him and trust in His Word. You must “search out of the book of the law….” Let your life be governed by His promises and principles.
