The Integrity of the Word

A Father's Promise Builds Trust

My thoughts go back to the days when my son Aaron was a little boy (around 5 years old). Each time I would go for a gospel outreach out of town, he would ask me to bring him a toy. This was his condition to let me go. When I returned home, I made sure I had some toy to bring along for him. It did not have to be expensive, but it had to be a toy.

At any other time, if I told him that I would buy him a toy, he would believe me without hesitation. This trust was developed because I faithfully fulfilled my word to him each time. Generally, in life, a person's integrity has a great influence on how others relate to them and vice versa.

Humans, as good as their intentions may seem, are not perfect and are prone to failure. Even someone who is highly trustworthy may not be able to keep their word every time. A person may be unable to fulfil a promise because of circumstances beyond their control, such as sickness, lack of resources, unexpected delays, or other unforeseen situations. Likewise, we ourselves may not always be able to bring every promise we make to pass.

Trust God Alone

This is why the Bible admonishes us:

"It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man."Psalm 118:8

A mighty woman of God once said, "God's goal for you is total dependence on Him." That truly is the best place to be.

God's Word Never Fails

One of the most remarkable passages in Scripture is found in Numbers 23:19:

"God is not a man, that He should lie,

Nor a son of man, that He should repent.

Has He said, and will He not do?

Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?"

God is able to bring every single thing He has spoken to pass. We can trust every word that proceeds from Him. In fact, Hebrews 6:18 boldly declares that "it is impossible for God to lie." Therefore, we can rely on God's Word with absolute confidence.

The integrity of the Scriptures is rooted in the integrity of their Author. Because God is completely dependable, His Word is completely dependable. Although we may experience disappointments due to human weakness and limitations, we can be assured that God will never disappoint us. He is always able to accomplish exactly what He has promised.

It is only when we become fully convinced of the integrity of God's Word that we are able to experience its full benefits in our lives.

Hold On to His Promises

There may be seasons when challenges seem to persist, but we must continue to hold firmly to God's Word because we know He will never fail us. As you go about your day, reflect on the integrity of God's Word. Let this truth fill your heart with courage and confidence, knowing that God will surely fulfil every promise He has spoken concerning your life, regardless of how circumstances may appear.

Don't give up on those matters that seem unresolved. Continue praying, continue believing, and watch God bring His Word to pass in your life.
