Now, therefore, I beg you, swear to me by the Lord, since I have shown you kindness that you also will show kindness to my father's house, and give me a true token. (Joshua 2:12)
If you saw disaster looming on the horizon, what would you do to ensure your family's future? Rahab was such a one who put everything on the line for her family. She realized that it was only a matter of time before the Israelites crossed the river and conquered her city. Rahab desperately wanted to save her family.
When the two Israelite spies came to her door, instead of turning them in, she hid them from the men who were looking for them. Rahab now had favor with the two spies and she was quick to spend it seeking safety for her family and herself. Rahab saw that Jericho had no future and she didn't want it to be the same way with her family. Rahab spent her favor with the spies to buy life for herself and her family not just physical life but spiritual life as well. Through her marriage to an Israelite named Salmon, Rahab became an ancestor of David and later, of our Lord Jesus Christ himself. Not bad for a former harlot!
Don't spend your favor just on yourself. Don't waste it on things that lead to death. There is too much at stake. Favor is for bringing life and fulfilling destiny. Spend your favor wisely.
