The wise also will hear and increase in learning, and the person of understanding will acquire skill and attain to sound counsel [so that he may be able to steer his course rightly] (Proverbs 1:5 Amplified)
The wise hear and increase in learning. In other words, a wise person becomes wiser by hearing. The point is simple: Wise people listen more than they talk.
One of the ways to grow in wisdom is to learn from the wise by listening to their messages, reading their books etc. The best book to read for wisdom is the book of Proverbs. The book of Proverbs has 31 chapters, and you could read one chapter a day daily with the no of the chapter corresponding to the day. So, for example, if today is the 4th, then you could read the 4th chapter of proverbs and so forth.
As you read each chapter, you must listen to it speak to your inner man. By doing this on a regular basis, you will only grow wiser.
Another way to gain godly wisdom is to listen to the Lord speak when you pray. Many people treat prayer as a monologue. Speaking in simpler terms, they just express their heart and leave without waiting to listen to what the Lord has to say to them. So the next time you pray, ask the Lord to speak to you and then wait in silence to listen. He will definitely speak.
Wisdom is acquired by the ears, not the mouth. You have two ears but one mouth. In other words, one should be swift to hear and slow to speak (James 1:19)
Practice the art of godly listening daily, and you will see remarkable changes in your life.
