“He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go out no more. I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God. And I will write on him My new name.” (Revelation 3:12)
In Revelation 3:12, Lord Jesus makes a beautiful promise to those who overcome: "I will make a pillar in the temple of my God." Pillars are symbols of strength, stability, and endurance. Let's explore what it means to be a pillar in God's spiritual temple.
In the Old Testament, the temple in Jerusalem was a magnificent structure adorned with various pillars. These pillars served both practical and symbolic purposes. They provided support for the structure and also represented the steadfast nature of God's presence among His people. In 1 Kings 7:21, we read about two pillars named Jachin (meaning "he establishes") and Boaz (meaning "in him is strength").
As believers, we are now the temple of the living God (1 Corinthians 3:16). We are living stones being built together into a spiritual house (1 Peter 2:5). When Lord Jesus promises to make overcomers pillars in God's temple, He is speaking of our eternal security and significance in His kingdom. Pillars are not easily moved or shaken. They stand firm, even in the face of adversity.
Being a pillar in God's temple also implies a responsibility. As pillars, we are called to support and strengthen others in their faith. We are to be examples of steadfastness and endurance, pointing others to the unshakable foundation of Christ. Galatians 2:9 speaks of James, Cephas, and John as pillars in the early church, recognizing their important role in upholding the truth of the gospel.
How can you be a pillar in God's temple today? Start by ensuring that your life is built on the solid foundation of Lord Jesus Christ. Spend time in His Word, allowing it to strengthen and establish you. Look for opportunities to encourage and support others in their faith journey. Be a person of integrity and consistency, living out your faith in both word and deed.
Prayer
Almighty God, thank You for the promise of being a pillar in Your temple. Help me to stand firm in my faith, unshaken by the storms of life. Use me to support and strengthen others, pointing them to the hope found in You alone. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
