Word of God
What does it mean to look to Jesus? Lord Jesus and His Word are One. In fact, scripture calls Him the Word of God. (John 1:1)
God's Word is like a mirror. We often use mirrors to evaluate ourselves. Scripture says just as a mirror reflects what we are like on the outside, God's Word reflects what we are like on the inside. (James 1:23-24) When you are reflecting on the Word, you are actually looking unto Jesus.
Apostle James gives us three practical ways to reflect on the Word of God.
'But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom and continues in it-not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.' (James 1:25 NIV)
1.Read it. '…whoever looks intently into the perfect law
We are to focus our attention on the Word of God, to look at it intently in detail.
2.Review it. '... and continues to do this …'. That means over and over and over again.
3.Remember it. '... not forgetting what they have heard...'.
One of the best things you can do for your spiritual growth is to develop the habit of memorizing scripture. You may seem to forget it after some time but let me tell you, your Spirit man will bubble out scripture just when you need it most.
If you have been looking unto yourself or someone else, it is time to start looking unto Jesus. How do you do that? Expect the Word that you read, reviewed, and memorized to work for you in real-life situations.
Don't you realize that in a race, everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! (1 Corinthians 9:24 NLT)
Scripture encourages us to run the race with a mindset to win. If you do the above things, you will surely be able to run the race well and win.
