Never Too Late To Change

And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. For the wine would burst the wineskins, and the wine and the skins would both be lost. New wine calls for new wineskins.” (Mark 2:22)

Years ago, wine was stored in leather wineskins rather than bottles. When the wineskins were new, they were soft and pliable, but as they aged, they became hardened and couldn’t expand. If new wine was poured into an old wineskin, the container would burst, and the wine would be lost.

This tells me that God is ready to pour out that new blessing open that new door provided we are able to hold or contain what God is ready to give us. What limits God is our capacity to expand our lack of desire to change. I hear the Spirit whispering: “Change your wineskin, change your lifestyle.”

You can’t do the same things day in and day out and expect different results – that’s insanity.

As I was going through scripture, I found a very interesting fact, when Lord Jesus prayed for people, He asked how long they had been in that condition. He said to a crippled man lying at the pool of Bethesda, “How long have you been here?” The man replied, “Thirty-eight years.” (Read John 5)

Lord Jesus asked a woman who was hunched over how long she had been sick. She replied, “Eighteen years.” (Luke 13) Some parents brought their grown son who was blind to Jesus. Jesus asked, “How long has your son been blind?” They said, “Since his birth.” (John 9:1-12)

Why was Jesus so interested in the length of time? Why didn’t He just heal them and move on? It’s because Jesus wanted us to see that nothing is permanent. He wanted it to be forever recorded in scripture for all generations to come so that we would know it’s never too late to change. No matter what your present circumstances, it’s never too late to change.

Someone said, “Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.”
Prayer
Father, with You, all things are possible. You will turn my situation around; You will bring my dream to pass. Holy Spirit, renew me, change me so that I can hold what You are pouring. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
